Marty Zion's Liquid is a bright, garish assemblage of porn that, despite some repetitiveness, manages to arouse. This is one of those spastic, fantasy-laden efforts, full of MTV-style editing and flash-cuts and strobe lighting. Most of these snippets look and sound like an X-rated music video, with their heavily costumed, feather-winged starlets performing lengthy stripteases and masturbation shows, all to pounding instrumental rock. Liquid is a high-gloss concoction that at first irritates you with its strobing aggression but, in the end, wins you over with some genuinely fine moments. Let's go through the film scene by scene.

Scene 1

The first scene finds a fetching brunette—our star, Taylor Rain—prancing around with big read feathered wings on her back. She teases us and plays with herself at the edge of a bathtub. Meanwhile, the rock soundtrack bumps along with the spastic editing. Just when that's getting annoying, the editing calms down, and she entertains herself with a green dildo, venturing into her ass. Soon enough, a guy joins her for some very nice cunny-lapping, and we get the usual routine of blowjob, some terrific standing doggy-style, and lots of suds. There are so many soap suds that you'll start to laugh. The scene also has some distracting bluescreen effects. Thankfully, the sex is just good enough to save the scene. Grade: B

Scene 2

A blonde and brunette dive into a playful lesbian romp, and as with the first scene, we're treated to a prelude of playing, teasing, and fingering to pounding music. We get some standing cunt-exploring, some dildo action, wrapping up with a strap-on doggy sequence and a reverse cowgirl. As much as I wanted to love this scene, it just lacked energy. Grade: C

Scene 3

A brunette on a huge bed strips and teases for a man who's asleep on the bed. As soon as he wakes up, we're treated to an outstanding sit-on-the-face sequence. This is highly arousing stuff—that is, until he starts eating out her asshole. And see, then I'm catapulted out of the scene. But hey, if you're into that, more power to you. It's still a creatively choreographed scene. We get some nice 69, some energetic doggy, some well-photographed missionary, and a decidedly strange cumshot, but this scene is still quite fun. Grade: A-

Scene 4

A very hot brunette teases and strips for the camera. She fingers herself (see the pattern?), and she joins another brunette, who just happens to be floating by in a small boat. Unfortunately, this other girl just doesn't seem into the scene. And the smoking hot brunette has a case of razor burn. Nevertheless, the scene has its high points—such as a fantastic face-plant and cunnilungus from below. But then the MTV editing ends the scene on a sour note. Grade: B

Scene 5

An angry-looking brunette goes through the typical motions of striptease and masturbation, scowling for the camera. A dude joins her and they perform, for our pleasure, some standing cunnilingus, blowjob, doggy, followed by a terrific cowgirl sequence that ends with a touch of anal. Grade: B

VIDEO/AUDIO PRESENTATION

Nectar presents Liquid in a very colorful full-frame transfer of the film's original 1.33:1 video presentation. In fact, this image is probably leaning a bit too far into the pink (no pun intended). But this is a vibrant effort, with solid detail. I did notice some aliasing and minor artifacting, but this is just fine for its purposes. The disc's mono presentation is adequate, but the bass is often distorted, giving the music an annoying feel.

EXTRAS

The sole extra of any merit is a 12-minute Behind the Scenes featurette, which focuses on set construction (of all things) and later, informal interviews with the pornstars, who come off as happy and dazed. A couple moments late in the featurette bugged my eyes: First, one woman preps for her anal scene by inserting a butt plug and leaving it there for a while, all on camera, and second, another star performs a very nice off-camera blowjob. Now that's a behind-the-scenes extra!
