Synopsis

Directed by musician Dave Navarro, Broken resembles a well-made music video and makes ample use of photographic and editing special effects. However, instead of interfering with the story line, well chosen effects actually help tell Dave's dark and somewhat treacherous tale of an abused woman (Sasha Grey) who, after experiencing some life-changing and esteem-enhancing changes, takes revenge on her abusive boyfriend (Mark Davis).

Told in just 75 minutes and composed of just three sex scenes, Broken's storyline is complete and doesn't feel a bit rushed or unfinished. After a very unfulfilling and somewhat rough sexual experience with her boyfriend Mark (in Scene One), Sasha, under the influence of Mark's injected semen (she spits his cum into a spoon, draws it into a syringe, and injects it into her arm), imagines a world in which she is in control of her sexuality. Indeed, she presides over--and participates in--four simultaneous sexual encounters brilliantly captured in real time in a nicely equipped sound studio (Scene Two). In addition to giving an absolutely outstanding blowjob to Marco Banderas, Sasha participates in an ongoing scorching girl/girl twosome featuring Kayla Paige and Lisa Daniels and lends her tongue, spit, fingers, and lust to a boy/girl twosome featuring Jenna Haze and Tommy Gunn and a second boy/girl twosome starring Victoria Sinn and Spyder Jonez. Later, Marco, unsatisfied with just a blowjob, finds Audrey Bitoni ready and willing to accommodate his still-aching and loaded cock with her mouth and pussy (Scene Three).

In the end, fortified with the knowledge that she can take charge of her own life, Sasha gets her revenge against Mark in a way that is certainly one of the least-expected twists in any adult feature I've ever watched. You've got to see it to believe it.

Scenes in which several couples or groups fuck at the same time are usually quite confusing and frustrating to me. The action switches back and forth from one couple or group to another so often that I always get the feeling I missed something. And, to tell the truth, I have a hard time staying involved...i.e., erect. That's definitely not the case in Scene Two of this movie. One of my friends and colleagues, astroknight, agrees and credit's Sasha's presence in each of the four simultaneous couplings. That point is well taken. However, I also believe that the way the scene was shot...in such a way that you can often hear and see all the action in all the couplings at the same time...makes this an intensely sexual and extremely mesmerizing scene. Absolute kudos to director Dave Navarro and his production and post-production team for a job supremely well done.

I must also say a word or two about the photography and music. The special-effects videography really supports the storyline and sex. For example, in Scene One, during which Mark Davis roughly fucks abused Sasha, the image is stark and high-contrast black-and-white. However, when Sasha's in charge, the colorful video portrays her strength.

Of course, the music is top notch since a musician directed the movie! I really like it when the music supports the plot and sexual action. Great job, Dave.

Broken is blessed with a fine cast. In particular, two of the girls...Sasha Grey and Jenna Haze...are on the list of potential recipients for my 2008 Dr. Jay's Must See Girls award.

All-in-all, this is a very watchable movie. The visuals are stunning and the sex is scintillating. What else do you need?

Overview: While crying her heart out while writhing dejectedly on the bathroom floor, Sasha tries, without success, to masturbate away her sorrows. Later, she approaches her abusive boyfriend Mark Davis for some care and concern. Unfortunately, Mark doesn't show poor Sasha any empathy. Instead, he fucks her violently...taking his pleasure from her while using her as his plaything. "I want it to hurt," she screams.

Scene 2

Overview: After Mark pops in her mouth, Sasha runs to the bathroom, spits his semen into a spoon, draws it into syringe, and then injects it into her arm. She then hallucinates that she's on a catwalk above a large sound stage in which three porn scenes are being shot simultaneously. Sasha walks down a flight of stairs, corners a videographer (Marco) and gives him a stupendous blowjob. Afterward, Sasha boldly joins couples--both b/g and g/g/--that are already fucking and turns the twosomes into extraordinary threesomes. Of particular note are the positions employed by Kayla Paige and Lisa Daniels. In a move usually employed by super-buff porn studs, Kayla holds Lisa upside down and the two share 69 while upright. This superbly-shot, appropriately-long, and oh-so-erotic scene simply must be seen to be understood.

Scene 3

Overview: After finishing his duties as videographer, Marco goes back stage and gets it on with the make-up girl, Audrey Bitoni. This is a relatively short (12 minute) and conventional boy/girl coupling that doesn't do much for me. I don't mean to sound unkind, but although I think that Audrey is a damned fine performer and is one of the cutest girls in the business (gorgeous face, mesmerizing eyes, stunning black hair, attractive piercings, shapely legs, and very fine body), her plastic surgeon ought to be sued for malpractice.

Extras

A particularly valuable set of extras includes a 15-minute look at Broken's still photoshoots (both hard and soft); a nine-minute "on the set" feature (basically a behind-the-scenes (BTS) featurette); a five-minute BTS feature that zeroes-in on the set used for filming Broken; an eight-minute exploration of the creative concept behind Broken; a two and one-half minute alternate ending for the movie (much edgier than the ending actually used in the movie); website link information; and numerous trailers for TeraVision releases. However, the most valuable feature is included on the Chapter menu. You can choose the "play the movie" as described in my Synopsis above. Or, you can choose to watch the "full sex scenes." If you choose "full sex scenes," you can watch complete versions of Scenes One and Three. In addition, you can watch the individual couplings that were edited together to create Scene Two without the video cutting from couple to couple. The "full sex scenes" option increases the running time of the movie from 75 minutes to two hours and is a very welcome feature that I'd like to see emulated by other studios. Four and one-half stars.
