Extra's: The two best extras were the bonus scenes from other Starlight Pictures' movies; Silly Boys, Chix Are For Girls (14:40 minutes) starring Trinity Post and Trista Post; and Milf Does A Body Good (26:08 minutes) starring Samantha Fox, Juliett, and Woody. The technical values were unexceptional on both scenes but they were shot fairly well, if not up to Hustler's standards of quality. They were followed by a photogallery, some trailers, a true double sided DVD cover (one side naughty and the other less explicit), and a section where you could watch the scenes using toys (15:11 minutes) or those where no toys were used (76:22 minutes)

Audio/Video Quality: Goin' Solo was presented in an anamorphic widescreen color using an aspect ratio of ~1.78:1 as directed by Arynn Star for Hustler Video/Starlight Pictures. This was the first movie from Starlight that I'd seen under the new distribution deal and I'm just hoping future efforts will look better by comparison. The lighting was ample in most cases by the ladies all looked washed out and the camera angles were limited to a couple that were easy to get with a handheld camera. The bitrate was pretty high, often in the mid 7 Mbps range, but this was the weakest looking title I've watched advertised as "Shot In HD" to date (maybe it would look better if not down converted to SD DVD but given some of the ladies, I seriously doubt it). The bonus scenes looked better by comparison so maybe this was just a quick throwaway the director made on the side or something. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English with a bitrate of 192 Kbps but it was on the low side with no separation and the dynamic range was terrible. I could hardly hear the vocals without turning the sound up too high (causing noise) and few of the ladies appeared to know how to use dirty talk to enhance the moment.

Body of Review: Arynn Star is an attractive gal that has allegedly never performed in porn yet has been a director for Starlight Pictures several times in the past. Now that the company has a new distribution deal with Hustler Video, I get the impression she will be thrust into the limelight much more readily, evidenced by a recent article on the popular X-Biz website spotlighting the cutie. Her first release under the deal making it to me was Goin' Solo; a series of twelve female masturbation scenes using a minimalist approach for fans of the genre. With the promise of a female's eye, and not a guy doing all the work behind her, I gave the movie a look a few days ago, finding it to be relatively uninspired compared to similar efforts. One of the biggest problems was the frequent use of seasoned porn performers, completely contrary to the advertised "100% Amateur" label on both sides of the cover in big, bold letters. Here's what the cover said about it if you're still interested: "Tired of jerkin' off alone? Now you'll have company! Watch all these chicks finger their tight holes, rub their little clits, pinch their protruding nipples, and shove dildos in their wet twats just to please you. These little exhibitionists love to be watched playing with themselves, and that's why we brought them out for you!" Without getting wordy, here is a breakdown of the scenes by cast with a minimal description of what the setting was and what took place, noting that no men were present:

Scene One: Tabitha James; average looking brunette gal with mullet, used fingers to get off moderately convincingly on the red couch.

Scene Two: Jessica Rose; a chunky chick wearing a black & white bikini outfit on the beige couch; used her fingers and weighed about twice what most gals in porn seem to weight these days. She had an annoying habit of looking off to the side of the camera.

Scene Three: Trista Post, a gal with brown hair looking rather worn after a lengthy career in porn, took place on the wood framed bed with purple sheets. Completely unconvincing act with her fingers.

Scene Four: Samantha Fox, thankfully not the 1980's singer or 1070's porn star, first with a vibrator in the movie on the wooden bed with blue sheets, applied KY jelly to toy to insert. She seemed distracted by the off screen personnel but was the best at conveying a sense of heat; a plus if you like heavy gals.

Scene Five: Lucki Chatsworth, an average looking gal with large breasts and a chunky body, wearing blue outfit (she was on the front cover); used her fingers and had a lot of blemishes on her thighs in a fair solo scene.

Scene Six: Chelsea Zinn, a MILF with pretty blonde hair and nice mouth, already working herself over with a vibrator when the camera showed her in action on the purple couch. She was most like an over the top porn performer but I'd have done her nonetheless.

Scene Seven: Jessica Jameson, a curvy third stringer with bleached blond hair and huge implants on the purple couch with her hand. Unconvincing!

Scene Eight: Juliett, a plain gal with a Hello Kitty tattoo on her inner thigh, was up next on the bed with her fingers in her leopard print undies. She looked to be having fun and might clean up nicely with the right studio/make up.

Scene Nine: Darien Ross, a gal that has been in porn longer than anyone else in the movie (IIRC), was up next on a brown leather couch in white undies that looked good on her. She's well past her prime if this scene is an example of her work but she seemed to have fun with her fingers.

Scene Ten: Rea Deandrea, an old, worn out looking brunette with short hair and wandering eyes (wearing what looked like the same leopard print outfit from earlier), was up next on the same couch with a red slip cover on it (I think all the couch scenes were on the same couch just as most of the bed scenes were the same bed). Looking disinterested, she diddled herself but did not appear to get off in the slightest.

Scene Eleven: Raquel Amente, a heavy set gal with an appealing face, was wearing a black bikini as she used hand to gland action to get off on a second bed. I'm sure I've seen her before and she seemed to be having fun; another gal that will appeal to fans of curvy gals.

Scene Twelve: Zaccarra, a gal that did absolutely nothing for me in the slightest, was up last on the standard bed in blue bikini underwear using her fingers. The fishnet stockings kept the screen alive with shimmer and she kept looking off camera while she grimaced (ie: she looked like the mean female couch from the Porky's series of movies in the 1980's, Beulah Balbricker). Ewwwwww!

Summary: Goin' Solo as directed by Arynn Star for Hustler Video/Starlight Pictures was a title I found unworthy of your hard earned money and semen. There were a few gals that I'd like to see more of elsewhere but most of the gals were seasoned veterans in the porn industry and nothing like the advertised "100% Amateur" label given them on the cover. Further, the technical values might have been shot in HD but they looked inferior to the releases by a number of other companies making similar claims, though the majority of performers probably wouldn't want to be cast in the harsh light of well lit HD anyway. That said, for me at least, Goin' Solo was worth a rating of Skip It but I can't deny that a few of the nontraditional looking gals appealed to me as worth looking for elsewhere. I hope what I've been told about the director being talented was not based exclusively on this one though as it was pretty lame overall.
