Extras: This being a double disc set, I was wondering what extras could possibly be provided to enhance the value any more than the scenes provided in the main disc (I liked that the movie was completely contained on the first disc). As long as the scenes were, the extra had 3.5 minutes of bonus footage (where some glimmers of insight were provided as to the energy levels and fun factor the movie had in spades). I didn't care about the cumshot recap or limited filmographies or the photogallery but the 37 minute long Behind the Scenes feature added some solid value to the already excellent set. If you like the ladies at all, you'll appreciate getting to see even more of them in various states of undress, with Jake Malone doing a decent job of assisting with the camera. The interviews were funny and if I could afford to be Tiffany's "sugar daddy", I'd pay extra for the airbrushing she underwent for the scene. The other excellent extra I enjoyed was the 20.5 minute long series of photoshoots as the cast were primped and seductively posing with some added BTS commentary. In all, it was a very solid selection of extras made specifically for this release rather than the "add on" material most companies seem to think consumers want. I would've liked another audio commentary and some bonus sex scenes with the cast but this was still well above average in terms of quality extras (and far more than you should expect given the length of the movie).

Audio/Video Quality: Evilution was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as originally shot for DVD by director Manuel Ferrara for Evil Angel. The colors were solid, the fleshtones accurate, and the lighting almost always pretty good; making the picture look decent. Lighting varied by the scenes and the last scene, for example, showed substantial changes taking place as though they took a lunch break and relit the scene after starting it up again. The amount of grain and video noise were fairly light as a result so while it wasn't the best I've seen from Michael, it was better than most gonzo productions. There were no compression artifacts or video noise noticed during the scenes but the strength of the visuals was how the composition of the shots almost always enhanced the looks or perceived passion of the scenes. The scene shot in Kylie Ireland's downtown dungeon was especially hot in terms of the visuals though the audio suffered as a result of the brick walls reflecting the audio harshly. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English with minimal separation between the channels and a standard dynamic range, making it nothing special in this sense but not bad either.

Body of Review: Evil Angel has added some fine directors of late including Erik Everhard and Manuel Ferrara, two of my very favorite gonzo directors in porn in recent years. Manuel has always struck me as one of the nicest guys in porn, possessing a quiet, friendly nature that speaks volumes as to his confidence in what he does for a living. He seemed touched when I discussed my review of his blockbuster release of 2005, Mind Fuck, appreciating that someone took the time to closely look at what he was doing rather than churn out a review on an assembly line as happens in the review world much like movies are made in the industry. Well, like Erik, Manuel is now evolving his style as he makes the switch to Evil Angel, offering something rather special in the form of Evilution; a series of vignettes that use a variety of techniques to provide some incredible replay value and great scenes that rival anything his peers have been making. Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that fans of gonzo will be hard pressed to find more than a handful of titles with more value and that no condoms were used:

Scene One: Naomi, the gal featured on the right hand side of the front DVD cover with the great ass, was up first as an uptight wife who was in need of finding her nastier side as she walked in on Annette Schwartz sucking off Manuel Ferrara. Her loss for words could be taken as typical bad porn acting or maybe a very real manner of speech (in real life, unlike Hollywood, people don't always come off as particularly eloquent). Summary: Evilution showed Manuel Ferrara as he evolved into something more than just a director of "couch gonzo", with the scenes looking like they were shot recently rather than leftovers from previous years. The casting was superb, the amount of fuck for the buck off the scale, and the extras nicely complimented the double disc package of wonderfully perverse scenes. I especially liked how Manuel allowed the cast to fully explore their sexuality for as long as they could sustain the heat, with minimal editing to interrupt the flow of the passion shown. The length of the scenes also gave them plenty of replay value that will give the title the kind of legs most porn lacks though I'm sure those of you with quick triggers might disagree. For me, I thought the set warranted the highest rating of all as a DVD Talk Collector's Series pick for all it had to offer fans of hardcore sex. In short, Evilution is another step in the evolution of Evil Angel, a company already known for some of the best porn in the jizz biz, offering lots of stroke value to the masses.
