The Movie:

Set way back in the age of Sultans and harem girls, 1001 Erotic Nights follows the exploits of Sultan Shaka Khan (John Leslie), who claims (falsely) to be a descendent of Ghangis Khan. His most prized possessions are the women of his harem, many of whom are very beautiful and skilled in the ways of sex. The film details the exploits of the Sultan, his harem girls and his friends.

Scene 1 –: The Sultan's wife, Sultana (Lisa De Leeuw) is cheating on him with another man, Saragon (Herschel Savage). We see her in bed with him going at her from the missionary position in this very brief scene. After some dialogue between the Sultan and his advisors we cut back to them, and he offers her a gift in the form of Joey Silvera and his mammoth member, who dances for them to the soothing sways of a bizarre sitar based rendition of a song that sounds way too similar to a certain Jefferson Airplane song. The DVD

Video:

The film was shot on 35mm film stock and so it has a nice, high level of detail that shot on video porn sadly lacks most of the time. Great care was obviously taken and the movie exhibits some really nice cinematography. Some of the lighting could have been a little brighter but even the darker scenes exhibit some truly artistic compositions. Quality of the transfer on this DVD is quite good, without any compression artifacts to report and only some slight edge enhancement. There is some minor print damage present but it's never enough to distract from the onscreen action.

Sound:

The English Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack is just fine without much to complain about in the way of hiss or distortion. Levels are balanced nicely and the background music never overshadows the sounds of sex or the dialogue. There are a couple of scenes where a line or two are a tiny bit low in the mix but this is more to do with the conditions of the original shoot than with the audio mix on this DVD, as even on the VHS releases of this title in the past they've sounded that way.

Extras:

Extras are limited to an advertisement screen for four other VCA Classics titles, a photo gallery consisting of twenty images from the film, a cast listing in text format, an internet link and a contact page for VCA.

Final Thoughts:

1,001 Erotic Nights Part 1 – The Story Of Scheherazade is classic early eighties erotica at it's finest. An all star cast, some truly hot scenes, nice set design and a basic but effective storyline make this professional looking adult film easy to highly recommend.
