I haven't seen a "Shane's World" title since the ebullient blonde Shane was actually in them, but judging from this 41st edition in the gonzo series, it doesn't seem that the formula has changed much. We come along for the ride as a bunch of "friends" go on a fun-filled getaway -- and have lots of casual sex in various groupings in between all the athletic activities. The background for the sex this time is snow sports capital Aspen, Colo., and while none of the performers here are budding Bode Millers, they do know their way around a sloping breast and a stiff pole.

The MTV "Real World"/"Road Rules" ethos is the model here, albeit on a much more limited scale. For this sort of thing to really pull you in, the young people at the center of it need to have vibrant personalities, or at least distinguishing oddness or outrageousness. The gang here may all be porn stars, but, beyond their sex scenes, there's nothing outrageous or exciting about them. Tall stud Jordan Ash flies from L.A. with sandpaper-headed Justice Long, Hispanic hottie Ann Marie Rios, blue-eyed blonde Codi Carmichael and raven-haired beauty Madison Ivy to Colorado, where they eventually meet up with affable cocksman Alex Gonz and another brunette sweetie, Georgia Jones. Over the course of four days (the feature was shot from March 6-9, 2009), the gang share breakfasts, snowboard and ski (badly), skate at an indoor rink (not much better), play in the snow and smoke doobies in the hot tub at their luxurious rented townhouse apartment. In between all that, of course, they fuck -- sometimes acknowledging the unseen, unheard camera operator, sometimes not.

The sexual highlights all involve tiny Madison Ivy, a light-eyed, high-cheekboned Shannen Doherty type who is probably telling the truth when she mentions that she weighs 87 pounds. She has lusty scenes with Alex and Jordan -- two large guys who toss her around with ease, though she is clearly the dominant player. But they pale next to her scene with fellow dark-haired beauty Georgia Jones, which ranks among the hottest Sapphic showdowns I've ever witnessed; just when it looks like both girls have cum themselves out, the scene goes on (and on), covering a half hour of real time. And when Madison breaks out a can of whipped cream, she gives new meaning to the term "sweet ass."

Ann Marie and Codi aren't exactly shabby themselves. Ann Marie, always a vigorous sex pro, has hot scenes with Justice and Jordan, and ace cocksucker Codi exhibits genuine horny enthusiasm in her couplings with Alex and Justice. It's a very grave disappointment that Georgia has no scenes co-starring a cock.

After four days of fun (and genuine bruises and sprains), our athletic friends sign the guestbook and depart. Whether their friendship continues once the camera is turned off, only their neighbors back in L.A. can say.

                                                       THE DVD

With a main program that lasts more than three and a half hours, it may seem churlish to complain about the lameness of this DVD's so-called extras. But ... the "behind the scenes" featurette consists merely of a snowball fight between Justice Long and Alex Gonz; the "lost footage" amounts to Codi Carmichael and Ann Marie Rios trying to get on their ski boots and Codi attempting to coax a 19-year-old guy who works in the ski shop to come to her hot tub; the "bonus trailers" are really just a two-minute montage of various unidentified Shane's World videos. The unnecessary photo gallery and cumshot recap don't add much.

The live-action main and scene menus are simple and functional. The one navigational oddity is an interactive moment at the 1:30 mark. As the gang return to the townhouse after a day on the slopes, Alex and Codi head downstairs, while Madison and Georgia go upstairs (for their aforementioned marathon). At this point the screen freezes and offers the viewer the opportunity to pick which pair they want to follow. Don't fret about your decision; once the scene you've clicked on is finished, you go directly to the one you didn't pick; then, after that, the program resumes and heads to the finish.

Visually, the standard-video camerawork is a mixed bag. Some scenes seem underlit and fuzzy, while others are bright and clear. (The camera operator, however, is a skilled skier and skater, never losing the frame while performers are falling on their asses all around him/her.)

                                                  THE LAST WORD

The "reality" notion is wearing thin in this latest in a very long line of gonzo titles from Shane's World. Anyone who has seen a few sex DVDs in the last few years will recognize several of these pals as working porn stars -- and will grasp that their friendship probably didn't exist before their four-day ski vacation recorded here, and probably doesn't extend beyond it. But the sex is hot, and a girl-girl scene that will rivet both male and female viewers to their seats is downright scalding. The weak bonus material knocks a couple of points off the DVD's score.
