The Movie:

While the XXX parody trend still seems to be going strong, with new entries of varying degrees of quality churned out by the adult film industry machine each and every month, it’s probably a safe bet that very few people requested this one. The Simpsons – The XXX Parody is exactly what you’d expect it to be – yellow people mimicking familiar cartoon voices bumping uglies for your amusement. There’s a bit of a plot here, one that actually could have been pulled from the actual series itself if it weren’t presented as explicitly as it obviously is here. The story revolves around Homer’s borrowing of his neighbor Ned Flanders’ video camera. Why? So that he and Marge can film their snuggle time, of course! That’s right, the Simpsons join the ranks of other celebrity couples and release a sex tape. Marge resists at first, but eventually Homer talks her into getting down for us and the camera, at which point, we see just how naughty Homer knows she can be. Meanwhile, various other inhabitants of the great city of Springfield are sucking and fucking too.

As far as the cast goes, there have been some good choices made here. Andy San Dimas makes a great Marge and while we don’t see Anthony Rosano much (most of his material is POV) he does a pretty decent job with Homer’s voice. James Deen steals the damn show as Moe and is hilarious in the part, while Asia Zo makes a mean Cookie Kwan. No one else but Even Stone could play McBain and his chemistry with Briana Blair is solid.

The feature is a bit short by today’s standards, containing only four sex scenes, so here’s a look:

Scene One - Andy San Dimas And Anthony Rosano: In this first of four sex scenes, Homer and Marge have got the camera set up in the bedroom and are playing around with it. Again, this is all pretty much shot POV style, so ‘we are Homer’ to a certain extent here. Depending on how much you’re into yellow, the sex here might do it for you but for the most part it’s pretty standard fair. All involved have got some charisma here and are obviously having a good time. San Dimas is hot, even when yellow with blue hair, and James Deen is hilarious as Moe. You can’t help but think that the producers wasted a golden opportunity to include more characters from the Simpsons’ world (Barney and Flanders have very brief cameos – how hilarious would a Flanders sex scene be?) but there’s a very good shot that we’ll see some of that in the inevitable sequel.

In the end, this doesn’t quite give us enough to make it an essential purchase, even if you’re really into the parody stuff. It’s amusing and it definitely has its moments, but there could and should have been more done here – the story is basic, even by XXX parody standards, and while the production values aren’t half bad, the four scenes don’t stand out once you remove the yellow make up from the equation.

The Video:

The movie is presented in a nice 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen transfer that boasts good, lifelike color reproduction and strong detail levels throughout. There are some minor mpeg compression artifacts evident in a few of the scenes but aside from that the disc is well authored, meaning that there are no problems with edge enhancement or aliasing. Sometimes the colors look to have been intentionally muted a little bit, to give the movie a sort of old sitcom look, but once you get used to it you won’t likely notice it and generally the picture does look very good here – just keep in mind that the image has had a lot of odd digital processing applied to it, so it looks weird.

The Audio:

The Simpsons – The XXX Parody sounds good in its English language Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix. The score, dialogue and ‘sounds of sex’ all come through loud and clear with nice channel separation and some fun directional effects. Bass response is tight and bouncy and the score in particular sounds very good. Levels are properly balanced and there are no problems with hiss or distortion to complain about. Overall, things sound great.

The Extras:

LFP/Full Spread Entertainment have supplied a Behind The Scenes Featurette (15:26) that starts off with a chat with Ned Flanders before taking us around the set and supplying moderately amusing interviews with the cast and crew members, most of whom are in various states of undress. We do get to see some of the performers being painted yellow, which is pretty amusing (particularly when the airbrush artists have to paint around certain parts) – all in all, not a bad look at the making of the movie.

Also included here is a two minute Before And After Slideshow that shows how the yellow performers were digitally enhanced to get a more ‘cartoon’ look for the feature, a pin up slideshow, a pop shot recap, animated menus and scene selection.

Overall:

The Simpsons – The XXX Parody is bizarre enough to be worth a rental but probably not something you’re going to go back to time and time again. The performers, to their credit, do a pretty good job of impersonating that animated characters so ingrained in our collective pop culture brains, but the sex is pretty standard and with only four scenes, the running time here is a bit short. LFP’s DVD release looks and sounds fine but the extras are nothing more than standard. Rent it, if only to ease your curiosity.
