The Movie:

There isn't much of a story of And Then Came Eve, a feature directed by Jim Harn in 1979, but the film isn't short on that weird late seventies atmosphere that so many of us know and love. The film follows the titular Eve (played by Anne Task) and her best friend Gloria (Olga Davis) as they engage in various sexual escapades. Their first adventure finds the duo in need of some action and so they call for a pizza. The delivery guy, Ed, shows up and Gloria forces him to go down on Eve at gun point. He obliges, fearing for his life, and then Eve pushes him over to the couch where she rides him cowgirl and reverse. Ed pulls out and blows his load, but Gloria isn't done with him, taking him into her mouth, sucking him until he's hard again, and then letting him fuck her doggy style. Ed fingers Eve a bit and after Ed fucks Gloria missionary style he pulls out and drops a money shot onto her stomach which Eve is only too happy to lap up. This scene runs almost half an hour and takes up half the run time of the hour long movie. It also features some unauthorized musical accompaniment - listen carefully for The Beatles' Nowhere Man and a few other classic rocks hits!

From there, Eve and Gloria vanish from the screen entirely and for some reason we switch over to a dude with a shaggy beard and long hair getting busy with a foxy black chick at the poolside. She drops to her knees and gives him head and then they go for some more mutually beneficial oral action and move into a sixty-nine for a few minutes. They got at it from the usual positions - cowgirl, reverse, some doggy - but we never come back to them, and there's no climax, the characters simply disappear as simply as they randomly appeared in the first place. Weird!

While Shaggy Joe is boffing the sweet seventies soul sister, there's another couple inside keeping the couch that Gloria and Eve just used nice and warm for them should they decide to return at some point and make any sense out of this story for us. He's a fairly built dark haired guy and she's an average looking slightly weathered blonde who seems to enjoy giving him head. After she blows him he eats her pussy before getting down on all fours in front of him so that he can take her from behind. They fuck doggy style for a few minutes and he pulls out and shoots his load across her massive poorly groomed bush.

Once that pair finish up, Gloria comes back into the frame with some guy she's presumably just picked up. There's another girl with them and they head to the bedroom where Gloria tells her to take care of him however she sees fit. It seems that Gloria likes to watch. The girls gives him a blowjob and then rides him cowgirl style and she starts to really get into it. For some reason the producers decided it would be a good idea to set this scene to the sounds of Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree. He flips her over and finishes her off with some missionary style deep dicking. Once they finish up, Gloria decides to let them watch while she performs and she brings in another random guy who just sort of appears out of nowhere. He lies on the bed and she gives him a pretty rock solid blowjob before riding him reverse cowgirl style and then getting down in front of him for some doggy style fucking. He pulls out and blows his load, spending himself very quickly and not lasting very long at all.

Eve comes back for the finale as she and Gloria pick up some short fat guy who is having car trouble. He wants to use their phone to call for help but these two girls have other ideas and... then the movie ends. What? Seriously? That's the ending????

Poorly directed, poorly acted, not particularly well shot and just barely sexy, And Then Came Eve isn't very good. It does offer some great seventies atmosphere by way of some horrible fashions, bizarre interior decorating background detail and a score that plays like a lounge version of the AM radio of the era in which the film was made, but as an actual work of erotic filmmaking it fails pretty miserably. It's amusing and funny in its terribleness, but that's probably not why you'd want to watch it.

The Video:

And Then Came Eve is presented in a fullframe transfer, which appears to present the film in its original aspect ratio. It looks a bit washed out and soft but is otherwise not bad, though some of the darker scenes and night time scenes get muddy. The picture, like all of VCX's transfers, is interlaced but print damage, dirt and debris are never overly problematic despite some instances of heavy grain. There are some really minor instances of macroblocking if you put this under a microscope and look for defects but if you're not watching for such digital anomalies, you probably won't even notice them - just expect some softness here, which looks to be inherent in the original photography rather than transfer based.

The Audio:

The Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound soundtrack is a little muffled and not of the best quality, but again, it's taken from an older source so the limitations of the era's technology are going to be there when that's the case. Dialogue is pretty easy to understand, however, and the background music comes through reasonably clear. There aren't a lot of sound effects used in the film, mostly just some random moaning and groaning during the action scenes and these are handled just fine, as are the talkier bits of the movie. There's very little surround activity here, it's a front heavy mix that doesn't sound too far off from an old Mono track, but 5.1 is what it says on the packaging, on the receiver, and on PowerDVD so 5.1 it is. The most irritating part of the presentation, however, is that much of the audio sounds compressed and tinny, which makes some bad performers even harder to listen to.

The Extras:

Aside from some tacky animated menus, VCX has included four bonus scenes - a clip from Eruption, a clip from Personal Services, a clip from Bad Girls II and finally a clip from Suzie Superstar. Rounding out the extras are trailers for Shared With Strangers, Vista Valley PTA, Visions Of Clair, and Swedish Sorority Girls , and the Legendary Tribute montage of vintage adult movie clips as well as some animated menus.

Overall:

And Then Came Eve will appeal to bad movie fans but not to the pickier vintage porn connoisseur. It's hard to recommend this picture, as it's just not very good or really very sexy. VCX's transfer is passable given the age and obscurity of the picture, but no better than that and we've seen all of the extras before on other, better movies. Skip it.
