OVERALL IMPRESSIONS

I'm always a little skeptical when it comes to adult films that are supposed to be funny. But I might have to change my tune after watching Johnathan Morgan's Space Nuts. Quite simply, Space Nuts is the best adult film production I've ever seen. I'll admit, the sex isn't as "fun" as some other titles (the sex is great, but lacks a little in the excitement department), but the story, the production quality, and the replay value definitely take adult entertainment to the next level. I have no problem recommending this impressive 2-disc DVD set to both couples and singles alike.

When's the last time you considered watching an adult movie for a second time? For most women, it's not that often. But Space Nuts might be one of those rare few that is worth multiple viewings. I never thought I'd be sitting through a 3 hour adult film, but surprisingly, Space Nuts manages to be both entertaining and arousing. Although the name doesn't sound too promising, it actually is an impressive, entertaining, and hot flick. Add some nice extras, and you've got a great DVD.
THE SEX
He said…
The sex in Space Nuts is great, but it lacks spontaneity and passion. There are 10 sex scenes in this 3-hour film, and only a handful are exciting to the level that it's obvious the actors are more interested in their partner instead of the camera. I won't say the sex looks rehearsed or choreographed, but it is missing a certain pizazz.
With that being said, I must admit the sex is still damn good. The girls and guys, in most scenes, appear to be having fun. Stormy has sex three times in Space Nuts and she's definitely enjoying herself in each scene, particularly with Julian. She's definitely having loads of fun in every position with him, but there's a twinkle in her eye while she's pleasing him orally. I can assure you, audiences will get the same enjoyment out of watching her.
The girl who's having the most fun, however, is Katie Morgan. She seems to have a zest for making sex exciting. Too bad she's only in one scene. Luckily for fans, she'll be around for awhile.
Perhaps the most important aspect of the sex in this film, and this is a big bonus, is that it works in the storyline. The sex scenes aren't simply thrown in to spice up the slow parts of the plot. Nope, in Space Nuts, the sex moves the story along and fits perfectly in the plot. What's more, it's easy to imagine the characters, not the actors, having sex in these situations. For couples out there who want to enjoy a good story with good sex, this is of huge importance.
You should note that the sex is fairly tame, which is perfect for those sharing an adult film for the first time. Aside from the one MFF threesome, the scenes basically consist of oral and a few positions. There are no anal sex scenes, and no scenes contain any material that would be considered objectionable.

Overall, Space Nuts makes for a great couples film because the story is good and the sex is better (if not a bit tame). There are plenty of nice bodies to go around, fun dialogue, and fantasies. Did I mention great bodies? Well, good, because they're all over the place. The hottie, Stormy, who plays Princess Hubba Hubba, will have her fans drooling and her soon-to-be fans begging for more. All three of her sex scenes are more than just fun to watch, particularly because she has some nice big studs to play with.
Man-servant Jeeves aims to please in the casino brothel and fulfills his goals for both Kaylani Lei and the audience. At first, the thought of watching a droid have sex was a bit of a turnoff, but once the action heated up, I quickly got into it.
With one threesome (FFM) and the rest male-female sex, this film is a relatively tame one. It's not forced or uncomfortable, which makes it a fine couple's film. There's no anal sex to worry about, and no toy action, either. Unless you count a small whip and the temporarily bound space warrior, there is no bondage. To some, this may sound too tame, but the action on screen is still definitely fun to behold.
THE STORY

Director Jonathan Morgan blends science fiction, comedy, and sex into a nearly flawless adult film. Princess Hubba Hubba (Stormy) is trying to evade the clutches of the Evil Overlord (Mike Horner). Luckily, rogue warrior Starfocker (Evan Stone) and the princess's trusty servant droid, Jeeves (Randy Spears) will do whatever it takes to help her escape.
This film parodies a number of space epics, including Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Trek, and Aliens. Although many of the jokes fall flat or are a little too silly, most of the situations and one-liners are definitely laugh-out-loud funny. I actually found myself becoming involved with the characters and enjoying their antics during non-sex scenes, something that rarely happens for me. This actually has a positive impact on the sex, which is more fun when you care for and understand the characters. Space Nuts is one of the few adult films that will stand up to repeat viewings.
The special effects are well done, too. Sure, this isn't some George Lucas film, but it does take adult entertainment to the next level. Not only are the computer generated images great, but the sets, props, and costumes look amazing. Stormy looks stunning in this film, thanks, in part, to sexy costumes, makeup, and hair. Lots of time and money went into this production, and it shows.

When my better half got Space Nuts for us to review, I wasn't too thrilled. When he told me it was a 3-hour film and a 2-DVD set, I cringed. But within minutes of starting the movie, my sneers and snickers turned into grins and giggles. Space Nuts is like your favorite B-movie, with all the campiness, poor acting, and barely-there storyline that somehow manages to keep you glued to the screen, entertained despite yourself. Unlike most B-movies, however, this one has lots of great sex along the way.
In the film, Princess Hubba Hubba and her man-servant Jeeves are stranded on a space casino. The Evil Overlord is in search of the princess so he can marry her and become the de facto heir to the Clitoran System. If it sounds corny and out there, that's because it is. But for an adult film, the whole idea behind Space Nuts is, in more ways than one, revolutionary. To actually have a coherent plot and a fun storyline is totally new (not to mention the sets, costumes, and special effects). Featuring a plot that isn't only about hurrying the story along so more characters can get naked is something to be marveled over. When you find yourself enjoying an adult film when no one's naked, then you know you have a winner.

Wicked Pictures presents Space Nuts in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. Despite a few of the more colorful scenes appearing saturated with some artifacting, this presentation is top notch. Detail is sharp and colors are bright and vibrant. Most of the scenes were well lit during filming, and come across perfect on DVD. Although it won't stand up against a new Hollywood release, for adult DVDs, I can't imagine much better.
The soundtrack is even better. Presented here in 5.1 Dolby Digital, the music is crisp and deep, voices are crisp and clean, and the rears are even used regularly for sound effects. My only problem with the sound has nothing to do with the transfer. I was hoping to hear more of the voices/moans during the sex scenes instead of the music score. I feel the sex is more powerful when you can see and hear the participants. But this is only a minor grievance for an otherwise perfect track.
EXTRAS

Space Nuts is loaded with goodies, most of which are entertaining and informative. The commentary features Jonathan Morgan, Stormy, and Randy Spears, and can be heard over the film, or it can be viewed with picture-in-picture, which allows you to see the film and the commentators in separate windows. The picture-in-picture format is a good idea, but isn't really necessary as the group generally just sit there and talk into microphones, which isn't particularly exciting even when Stormy drops her top. Beauty and I both felt the commentary was entertaining, but no such track could maintain that level for three hours.
The rest of the extras are found on the second disc. Although there are a lot of extra stuff, many could have been combined to make a longer, better documentary style feature. For example, the Making of Space Nuts offers behind-the-scenes access for each day of shooting, along with director's comments along the way. This, along with Director's Nightmare and the Interview with Jonathan Morgan, could have been added with the Casting Call Reel, the Cold Readings Reel, and the Rehearsal Reel (all of which are hilarious in one form or another) to produce a comprehensive documentary. Not that clicking each one on the menu was a big hassle, but Beauty and I both feel that with some editing, the seamless documentary would have been both more entertaining and informative.
You also get a number of photo galleries for the stars and promotion of the film, a fairly easy trivia game that grants access to many more short behind the scenes featurettes if you get enough correct answers, a weak blooper reel, and trailers. You also get a Best of the On Camera Commentary which, you guessed it, features some of the best segments from the commentary.
These extra features really do a good job of explaining what it's like to make an adult film. Although nothing new, these goodies are definitely worth watching. The only thing missing are additional sex scenes, which is too bad, because I would've enjoyed seeing more of the film's stars.

Although I found the special features interesting, they were also a little disappointing given the effort that went into the feature. "All Access – The Making Of Space Nuts" is eye-opening, but it was too short and choppy to enjoy as a behind-the-scenes documentary, and the special effects reel is entirely too short for all the work that obviously went into the picture.
The casting call, cold readings, and rehearsal featurettes are simply great. But here's a hint: Don't watch these clips if you want to keep believing porn stars aren't real people, just as dorky and unkempt as the rest of us sometimes. If you don't care about that, take a peak at these because they're pretty hilarious.
There aren't many too many bloopers, but the ones showcased are at least funny. Unfortunately, the best of the on-camera commentary was a turn-off. There is also an interactive quiz that, if you score well on, reveals another entire menu of hidden Easter egg extras.
Of the special features, I'll say this: You will learn all you've ever wanted to know, and some stuff you probably didn't, about the filming of adult movies.
FINAL THOUGHTS

Couples are going to love Space Nuts because it not only has great sex, but the film is also top notch. For those who want to delve into the background of an adult production, the special features on this 2-disc set definitely fit the bill.

I highly recommend this film to couples (single girls and guys, too). The sex is good and the story is surprisingly entertaining. What else could you ask for?
