Extra's: The best extra was the 10.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature. It had more sex, some of the photogallery shots being taken, and some goofing around by the cast and crew (yet it was too short to allow all the cast to get equal time). There was also a decent photogallery, some trailers, and some spam.

Audio/Video Quality: Seymore Butts' The Sphincter Chronicles was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color it was shot in by director Seymore Butts for release by Seymore Butts Home Movies/Pure Play Media. While his works have often been technically limited in terms of lighting, grain, and other visual flaws, he wisely focuses less on technical matters to concentrate his efforts on providing the kind of raw energy that far too few pornos have these days. This DVD looked similar to past efforts of his, with some minor lighting and grain issues as much as anything else but it didn't look bad at all. The composition of the scenes varied less than in other recent Seymore movies, making the women look pretty good, if not their very best. While I don't believe the action is unscripted as the movie tries to show, it suggests this makes it all look "real" as in unstaged or as if Seymore mindlessly walks into the scenes but we all know better and that detracts from the otherwise fun sex he offers up. There were no observed compression artifacts so at least the DVD mastering was solid. The 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English audio track was okay with no separation between the channels and limited dynamic range.

Body of Review: Seymore Butts has long been a force in gonzo porn, popularizing it nearly as much as John Stagliano and Patrick Collins over the years with his down home approach that so many fans have appreciated. I've personally enjoyed a number of his titles in the past but since he cut back on performing himself, a lot of the old school energy he brought to his scenes has been in short supply so his ratings have wavered as a result. His latest title on DVD is Seymore Butts' The Sphincter Chronicles, another in a long line of his four scene offerings, with the best work being on the first half of the DVD. If you like Seymore's past efforts and enjoy anal sex on the men and the women; you might find it worth additional consideration too. Here's a look at the scenes by cast and action, noting no condoms were employed by the men:

Scene One: Sophie Dee, a busty British gal with some ample curves, was working out in the home gym with Kurt Lockwood. He was giving her pointers as he curled a modest weight and nature took its course with the duo stripping off their clothing while he rimmed her by the electric bike. This was where Seymore walked in from behind the shelving so that he could get a better view of the action. Kurt kissing ass is nothing new but she seemed to enjoy his experienced tongue working her backside, switching out to her cookie as she balanced on top of a large exercise ball. She then sucked him off with a sloppy bit of head and found it easy to handle his entire wad as she deepthroated him, using her hands and mouth in unison as he held her hair like a gentleman. He then imitated Lee Stone by holding her up in a standing 69, leading to the vaginal boning we all knew would take place. She actively rode him as she impaled herself in his lap, him fingering her ass to prepare it for the following anal. She wasn't quite as active anally but there was a moderate amount of chemistry between the couple and I never got the impression that she was unable to handle all he had to offer up. It ended when he gave her a decent sized pop shot to the face and she sucked him clean some more, marking a reasonably strokable scene to start off the movie with.

Scene Two: Kaylynn, a hot brunette that I've appreciated for years, was up next as she applied oil to her curvy body outside in the natural sunlight by the pool while Seymore captured it all on camera. The tease portion of the experience was superior to many of his recent efforts that had none and suffered as a result. Kurt Lockwood joined her for a dip in the pool (wow, a perfect double entendre for Kurt in the pool) and Kaylynn made the most of his metrosexual status by rimming and fingering his ass when he offered it up on the side of the pool. While I disagree with Kurt about how many men are into this kind of thing, I'll be the first to admit that if that was the only way I could get Kaylynn in bed with me, I'd be open to trying it. Still, he didn't worry about his growing paunch as she sucked him off and gave a short titty fuck that looked ever so fine for the camera (as she continued to massage his prostate). They were joined by chunky Kaci Starr as the two were wrapped up in a 69, the ladies kissing before she shared the cock with Kaylynn. Both gals then took turns riding and sucking the others off, with Kurt getting more anal attention as the time permitted. Kaylynn was the superior rider of cock here by a substantial margin but each gal did vaginal and anal with a degree of energy (and chemistry). This was one of the best scenes shot by Seymore in a very long time for me thanks in part to the tease, the natural lighting, and the enthusiasm of the cast, right down to the load jerked out by Kaylynn that the gals shared orally. Whew!

Scene Three: Amber Peach, Kapri Styles, and Tom Byron, were up next as the camera abruptly joined a scene in progress. I hate missing out on the foreplay and tease so the scene automatically started off below grade for me even though all three of the performers have some very fine qualities to offer up. Tom was banging away on them and they were stretching out his ass with their fingers like he was Kurt (to be fair, Tom has had that as part of his repertoire since Kurt was working for pocket change on street corners and before) but Tom was doing most of the penetrative work. I prefer women who actively participate in their scenes and while they did do some of that once in awhile, the scenes prior to this one showed it a lot better. It was a filler scene in most ways that was strokable once if at all, making it a mild one at best for me. It ended when he jerked off all over Kapri's face and Amber's crotch, looking like he hadn't popped a load in several weeks.

Scene Four: Crissy Cums, a fleshy white gal, Jada Fire, a black gal with lots of attitude, and good old Herschel Savage, were up next as yet another scene in progress was captured. This time, the scene was on the back porch of the house with the ladies engaged in using the sex swing with Herschel jerking off. He joined them to bone as the ladies provided all three holes for servicing him though the anal was somewhat less emphasized this time. I again hated that the tease footage was tossed aside and the technical values of the scene were clearly the worst of the lot but the positive aspect of the scene was that the gals did show some enthusiasm and Jada's "squirting" aside, it had some solid basics; right down to the gals sharing the pop shot orally.

Summary: Seymore Butts' The Sphincter Chronicles started off like an award winning volume in his lengthy series due as much to the male talent as the ladies (yeah, it surprised me too) but Seymore Butts didn't join in and the technical values and direction of the second half of the movie really weakened the movie as a whole for me so all I felt able to give this one was a Rent It. In short, Seymore Butts' The Sphincter Chronicles had some decent fuck for the buck, a wide variety of technical values, and a wonderful performance by hotty Kaylynn that nearly elevated the rating a full notch higher all by itself. Fans will want to pick this one up and those on the fence should check it out first but some of the spark that Seymore has been missing of late was displayed and that gives me hope that he's coming back strong in the near future.
