Extra's: The extras began with the typical offering of five unrelated bonus scenes from the company vaults including short bits from The American Dream, Breakup Sex, Nameless, Sex & Violins, Where The Boys Aren't 18 (totaling 72:34 minutes of material). This was followed by the usual photogallery and text biography for contract gal Monique Alexander, four trailers to Debbie Loves Dallas, Double Up, Stood Up, and Off The Hook, some spam, and my usual favorite; a 4:33 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Dizzy. Monique was given the lion's share of the short feature, PT directing the cast, and some random bits of fun fluff were included too. As always, there was a second side to the front cover but as with most recent Vivid offerings, it was only a set of four covers to other titles instead of more artwork.

Audio/Video Quality: Call Girl Confidential was presented in an anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1 ratio offering as shot by director Paul Thomas for Vivid Entertainment. Like some of his more noteworthy titles of late, this one as shot in HD, though presented in the SD format (for now) as shot in 1080i to provide a lot of resolution supporting some of the effects (making it look more like a real movie than just a porno). The lighting was reasonably well handled (with minor exceptions in a few of the scenes that had less lighting or conversely, too much lighting), limiting the grain, video noise, and other distracting flaws seen all too often in porn these days; appearing to be shot nicely by talented cameraman Ralph Parfait with help from Fliktor. The composition of the camera angles and lighting were not always optimal this time, the camera spending too little time in the first scene and too long on some of the later establishing shots. The fleshtones were accurate this time and the DVD mastering was well done, making it look pretty solid in terms of visual quality (though perhaps the compression ratio was set too high as the bitrate was averaging about 4.5 Mbps). The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital offering (at 192 Kbps) with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent thanks to Miles Long. For some reason, the levels were mixed lower than usual but aside from the added background noise from doing so; the dynamic range was average and the separation of the vocal tracks nonexistent.

Body of Review: Paul Thomas is generally considered to have his choice of projects while working as a director for Vivid Entertainment but he does not seem to "play it safe" very often, sometimes taking smaller projects that explore his thoughts on broader topics like religion, human nature, and other ideas that come to him. His latest release does all of this with Call Girl Confidential, a feature starring Monique Alexander as a hooker looking for a better life. She turns to an old friend that has found a calling of his own, the results somewhat mixed for both of them when her pimp decides he isn't too happy with the outcome. The back cover said it like this: "Cherry is a street hooker having a difficult time in her chosen profession. She hates her job, her friends and her pimp. She wants out but doesn't know how. After an encounter gone wrong with one her johns, she runs into an old classmate who turns out to be a preacher...Marcos Leon...who's also is at odds with his chosen profession. After a scorching anal scene, and some wild interracial with Mr. Marcus, Monique comes to terms with her life on the streets. And Marcos' life in a church. And the come to each other. And the rest is purely Confidential." It was a short but interesting little dramatic exercise that did not skimp on the heat, energy, or story elements, making it a nice one for couples and those not wanting to see a strictly gonzo bone-fest as populates the majority of the market today. Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms were used at times:

Scene One: Monique Alexander, the hotty contract gal on the front cover, was up first as she wore a busy pink & black toss away dress when entering the hotel room to suffer through some bought & paid hooker sex with aging lothario Steven St. Croix; each playing their roles with the kind of precision that begets the usual porn acting for some reason. She put on a show for him and the camera both, crawling over to him to kiss him as though she cared. Summary: Call Girl Confidential by director Paul Thomas for Vivid Entertainment was worth a rating of Recommended thanks to the efforts of Monique Alexander and other ladies in the movie as much as the direction by Paul and his crew. There was some replay and solid strokability going on here with the plotted elements providing just enough to give the show some texture. The extras were the usual batch and while I would have preferred more material unique to the movie itself, having seen most of the bonus scenes and other stuff, I can't deny that much of it added value. In short, Call Girl Confidential was a nice showcase for the talents, sexual and nonsexual, of Monique as she develops her skills as an actress as well as continues her climb up the porn ladder.
