Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in 1.33:1 ratio full frame color, the current industry standard. The picture looked a bit grainy in places and the focus was a bit soft (it looked like an effort to make it look like it was shot on film, rather than video) but otherwise okay. The audio was presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 English and was average, with the music louder than I like in the mix (the music had a soft jazz feel to it). This is a stylistic consideration so I won't bag on it too much but it my personal preference is to hear the moans and groans of the cast.
Body of Review: Adam & Eve is a company that generally gears it's movies to the couples crowd. For the most part, this strategy has worked well for them since trying to be everything to everyone has rarely worked for any company, no matter how solid their quality. Adam & Eve often employs directors that incorporate more style than graphic sex with mixed results at times. Such is the case with director Stuart Canterbury's newest release, Behind Closed Doors. The movie centers on a small hotel and it's clients that all like to have sex. From newly weds to rock stars to the hotel staff, everyone gets some. The movie has no real plot, relying instead on a variety of situations for the sex scenes, and those that prefer well acted features will probably be less happy than average here. Thankfully, some of the scenes were pretty good, if limited, and here's a breakdown of the cast by scene:
Scene One: Jessica, the gorgeous redhead on the front DVD cover, and Cheyne, had a scene at night by a hotel pool. The sex was playful and included oral and straight with some energy. I liked the scene but wish it were longer and shot with better light (night scenes get a bit dark after all).
Scene Two: Mia, the cute little Asian gal, and Chris, had a scene as newlyweds in an elevator. It started off with some kissing and foreplay but they went to the straight sex. The two had some chemistry and it showed but they have been hotter elsewhere.
Scene Three: Allison, a little lean redhead that looked like a younger version of Chloe (VCA contract performer), and Tristan, had a scene in a hotel room. It started off with an energetic blowjob and went to some straight and even anal sex before he coated her chest with liquid love. It wasn't a very well made scene (the vocal track was completely overwhelmed by the music) and the scene was kind of mechanical) but couples might enjoy it.
Scene Four: Jackie, a girl-next-door brunette, and manly Evan, had a scene on a bed. Her fishnets looked pretty hot and her sexual skills okay but they seemed held back in their performance. It was oral and straight sex only.
Scene Five: Allison and Jackie had a standard lesbian scene in the hotel bed with Tristan and Evan watched them go at it. For the most part, it was run-of-the-mill action that consisted mainly of oral with a bit of vibrator use tossed in for kicks. Pass.
Scene Six: Lezley, a usually energetic brunette, and Tyce, had a scene at the bar. It terms of visual heat, it was probably the best scene of the movie but the chemistry was somewhat lacking here. It was also, surprise, oral and straight sex with a popshot to her ass.
Summary: No one will be thinking of this as a ground-breaking porno but it might well appeal to couples that lack much critical experience with porn. I would have preferred to see more extras, particularly extras unique to the feature, and a lot more of Jessica in the show since she was featured on the DVD cover, but the appeal of this one will be more geared to those less jaded than I am and it wasn't bad, just limited. The cast had a variety of looks, some gals looking really hot and others designed to appeal to the fans who prefer average looking performers, and this seems to be a good strategy if you're going to watch it with a significant other (especially one who is insecure about "competing" with porn stars). I'm going to rate it as a Rent It but couples may see more value in the movie than I did.
