The Movie:

So how could AVN Award winner Axel Braun follow up on the immense success of his Batman XXX movie from 2010? How to top one of the most universally lauded adult pictures of recent years? Why, take it one step further and rather than make a sequel to the Batman picture, why, let’s take on the biggest name in comic books – Superman! And thus, ladies and gentlemen, we have Vivid’s Superman XXX, in which Ryan Driller plays the titular man of steel.

The plot , and there definitely is one here, the movie begins when a plane is about to go down, likely killing everyone on board. Thankfully Clark Kent is on board, and faster than a speeding bullet he’s out of his suit and into his tights to save the day. This sets the stage for what’s to come, as Clark sets about trying to hit it off with fellow reporter Lois Lane (a perfectly cast and perfectly sexy Andy San Dimas) while maintaining his secret identity and thwarting the evil plans of Lux Luthor (Eric Matserson) and Miss Teschmacher (Alexis Texas) and the even more sinister plans of General Zod (Ben English) and Ursa (Zoe Voss). Thankfully his best pal in the whole wide world, ace reporter Jimmy Olson (James Deen – who is too old for this part but hilarious in it anyway) is around to help out wherever he can.

But let’s get to what you all want to know about before we delve back into what makes this one fun, as well as hot. Without further ado…

Nicely shot with good attention to detail in terms of the costuming and the little quirks that pay homage not just to the comics but to the big screen adaptations as well, Superman XXX really benefits from some great casting choices and fun performances. We already know all involved can fuck, but Braun gives them time to act as well and if no one here is Oscar material, everyone involved is obviously having a good time with the material and that comes across in their work. The effects are low budget but kind of charming in their own corny way, while the story flows reasonably well and while it might not be deep, it bridges the sex scenes together quite nicely. If it doesn’t quite hit the heights that Braun’s Batman XXX did, it comes damn close and as such turns out to be as entertaining as it is arousing.

The DVD

Video:

Superman XXX looks just fine in this 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Braun has put some care into shooting this film and it shows, with nice compositions and good use of color and thankfully Vivid’s transfer replicates this well. While detail never approaches high def levels of clarity it’s definitely better than your average porno DVD – things look very good here, Vivid has left little room to complain.

Sound:

The only audio option on the disc is an English language Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track, which was a bit disappointing as a 5.1 remix could have made a few of the more effects intensive or action intensive scenes more fun and spread the score around more than the 2.0 mix does. That said, what we’ve got here sounds fine. The levels are well balanced and there are no issues with hiss or distortion to complain about. The music in particular has good clarity to it.

The Extras:

Extras aren’t quite as plentiful as you might have hoped for an A-list release like this one, but the disc is hardly barebones. First up is a behind the scenes featurette that runs just under a half an hour in length. Here we get a look at what it was like on set and are treated to some interviews with the cast and crew as they do their thing on set. Also included on the disc is a ‘clean’ version that takes all of the sex out of the feature – what you’re left with is a rather amusing twenty-five minute version of the film that, while obviously very choppy in terms of how it’s put together, plays out like a fairly standard, albeit exceptionally goofy and raunchier than usual, Superman adventure.

Rounding out the extras are trailers for a few other Vivid releases, some irritating advertisements, animated menus and chapter stops.

Overall:

A fun storyline, five great sex scenes, interesting production values, good pacing and the fact that it’s one of those rare instances where everything comes together, pun intended, as it should make Superman XXX easy to recommend. If you enjoy feature based adult films and/or the whole parody trend that’s sweeping the industry by storm, definitely give this one a shot. Even if you don’t, hey, Andy San Dimas and Alexis Texas are both in fine form here. It’s worth it.

…Superman shows up just in time to sort of save the day. Lois was already forced to go down but it could have been worse right? At any rate, she’s so grateful for the rescue that she talks Superman into flying her around Metropolis before thanking him with head.
