Audio/Video Quality: Ass Trap was presented in the improved 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director John Leslie for distribution by Evil Angel in the MPEG-2 codec using 480i resolution. I appreciated the additional quality this provided me on my widescreen television set, making it more likely that friends of mine would be interested in seeing it too (with rare exceptions, similarly equipped friends of mine go out of their way to avoid what they call "fool frame" productions in favor of titles that look better on their new sets). As noted previously, John has long since surpassed the desire to show crystal clear visuals, preferring to focus his efforts on the kind of raw energy and rougher edged look that most of his peers only seem to fall into by mistake, though I'll be the first to admit I'd like his movies to revert back to a more traditional & well lit approach if at all possible. The levels of grain, video noise, and even pattern effects were okay this time and the action lost nothing due to the flaws on the technical side (the movie was still hot but the bitrate typically hovered in under 2.8 Mbps and it showed) but the overly saturated colors really did not help the ladies look their best IMHO. The composition of the camera angles showed some care put into them, making the ladies virtually always look their best, and this is the strength of John's directorial ability more than anything else (as a producer, he also tends to make fine selections of cast). The 2.0 Dolby Digital English audio track (in 192 Kbps) was as basic as gonzo porn came be, with limited talking going on outside of John's own directions in the background. The cast could be heard moaning & groaning but this was definitely a limited selection based on audio quality.

Body of Review: Evil Angel is one of the few companies that remains profitable these days, thanks in large part to their quality control procedures but equally important would be the fans knowing they will get what is advertised in their movies such as those by director John Leslie. John's latest flick is a series of four lengthy scenes called Ass Trap, the wealth of shapely ass on display enough to satisfy just about anyone into the beautiful backsides of modern porn performers. The company website said it like this: "Need to trap some ass? Just leave it to John Leslie to build a better ass trap. And these girls respond to the bait! Alexis Texas starts us off, wearing a tight blue dress which she sprays down until the fabric is wet and clingy. In short, Ass Trap provided some solid sexual misconduct for fans to appreciate and while it was not the best offered this year by the director, it was well ahead of what many of his peers have provided to date so check it out.
