Audio/Video Quality: The audio choices were either 2 channel stereo or 5.1 with the latter sounding very clear and crisp. The sex scenes were shot on film with that stylish quality Kramski is known for to make them look like they were from another time. The interviews were shot on video after the events of 9/11 and also dehanced for a particular look. The widescreen presentation was pretty interesting.

Body of Review: America XXX is an interesting collection of short sex scenes that were cut to hard rock band music in admittedly unique ways and interviews with the bands on topics ranging from AIDS, the death penalty, Freedom, and drugs. The sex included oral, straight, anal, DP, and a host of other practices which looked pretty hot with mostly attractive European babes. The director made a number of statements that were revealing of his personal tastes including, "The average Hungarian girl is better looking than 99% of American porn girls." Given that his first language is French, I'll be generous and chalk up his comments to not knowing exactly what he said since the average Hungarian girl doesn't look anything at all like the women in this movie. He never really provided any basis for his, or the others here, expertise in any of the topics discussed either which made their comments worth filing in the "clueless file". As one of the band members said, "We're a band, we don't have the answers."

Interestingly enough, the interview segments with Mr. Flynt were probably the most reasonable and easily worth the price of a rental alone. He lost his wife to AIDS, has been jailed for a variety of charges while trying to expand our freedoms (and/or make a buck), and probably knows firsthand how drugs impact our society. VCA contract performer Chloe does the interviewing and while no one is going to accuse her of gunning for Barbara Walter's job (thank heavens), she did a fine job. The band's interviews were all edited to make them look coherent and most of them did have some interesting things to say but the music was the focal point here. The good news is that the music was very good, particularly for bands that aren't exactly household names. If you rent or buy this one, turn up the home theatre system to "ear bleed" levels, kick back and enjoy. Summary: A few of the women were plain looking but some were hot. The sexual heat varied a lot too and I think the scenes were too often edited in favor of the music rather than the sex. Nonetheless, the worst scene here was still pretty warm by porn standards and the music generally kicked ass. Not one of the songs stunk which is unusual for this type of collection.

Since the interviews, both the ones edited into the feature itself and the longer format ones in the extras section, were such an important aspect of this dvd, it should be noted that for all my valid points about expertise, the people were reasonably well informed. I disagreed with them more often than not on a couple of topics but that kept it from being boring. I suppose I would've liked to see Chloe jump in and get busy with one (or more) of the bands and I would've liked to listen to Larry talk more about a few topics, but otherwise, I really liked this dvd as something more (and less) than my usual porn fare.

This is a tough one to rate as is any dvd that appeals to such different audiences. For all the talk about rock and porn being so closely related, a lot of people have real hang-ups about porn. Even the music videos were shot apart from the sex scenes whereas if they were shot together, it would've looked more like a collaborative effort on the part of the two genres. For me, a thinker who likes seeing both porn and hard rock, it's a highly recommended dvd. For a raincoater porn watcher, it'd be a bit light on sex and maybe rate only a rental. Lastly, for a music fan, it would depend on how much you like this type of music- most likely a recommended status for you.
