The Movie:

Vena Virago's debut for Vivid Alt is a mix of performance art, music, personality segments and of course, hardcore pornography. The results are surprisingly charming. The sex comes first and foremost but Virago presents her performers in a playfully sexy light and lets some of their quirks shine through so that they're more than just the standard cookie cutter fuck machines we're so used to seeing in every day pornography. The DVD

Video:

This shot on video production looks pretty clean presented here in a reasonably stable 1.33.1 fullscreen presentation. There is some mild edge enhancement in a couple of spots and a noticeable bit of mpeg compression evident in some of the darker colors and the blacks but other than that, there's not a lot to complain about save for once or twice where the reds bleed just a bit. Skin tones look nice and natural, the compositions are dead on, and aside from the fact that this digital video production looks like a digital video production and as such suffers from the minor defects usually associated with the format, everything is coming up roses as far as the look of the film is concerned.

Sound:

The Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track is quite sufficient. The dialogue comes through cleanly and clearly as do all of the moans and groans. The guitar driven soundtrack is mixed in properly at a decent level to make sure that we can hear both the music (which is really good... where's the soundtrack Vivid?)as well as the performers as the same time. Bass response is nice and lively and overall, for a porno movie, this is a way, way better than average effort and it actually sounds really good.

Extras:

Extras on disc one are limited to scene selection, performer selection and some nifty animated menus. Thankfully, there's a second disc inside the gatefold packaging that contains a plethora of smutty treats starting with an experimental film called Chicken Porn Wonder by director Vena Virago. This is a really strange four and a half minute short narrated by Dana DeArmond that explains how she met a magician, from there we see his act which features a live chicken. Odd.

The biggest of the supplements is a three part behind the scenes documentary, the first part covering day one (Dana and Tyler), the second part covering day two of the shoot (Page and Michelle, Lexi and Alex), and the third part covering the third day of the shoot (Roxy and Dino, Rebeca and Tyler). We get a chance to hear from the performers on set and see them getting into make up and wardrobe. There are some informal interviews interspersed here with not only the stars but also with some of the crewmembers that helped out on the project. We see the sex scenes being shot as if we were on the set with the crew and we see a few of the cast members posing from promotional photos. The whole thing runs just shy of an hour and it's a fairly informative piece that actually contains some genuinely interesting material.

Rounding out the extra features on disc two are bonus interviews with Lexi Bardot, Dana DeArmond and Krist Sorge, Michelle Aston, Page Morgan, Dino Bravo, Alex Gonz and the Barnacle Brothers. You can watch these on their own or by way of a handy play all option and combined these clips run for just over twenty-two minutes. Also tucked away inside the gatefold packaging is an audio CD that features the music used through out the movie. A nice touch.

Final Thoughts:

Eastside Story isn't pushing the envelope or really doing anything that hasn't been done before but it is a well made smut movie with some moderately amusing interviews setting up each of the five sexy scenes. The action is pretty hot and there's enough kink here to keep it interesting but not so much as to put the average pervert off. Bonus material is plentiful and rewarding and the audio and video quality is quite good. Recommended.
