Audio/Video Quality: Black Worm was presented in a nicely shot 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Andres Tabogo for Pulpo. I thought the movie looked really good in the dialogue portions but the sex scenes were often darker than I prefer; the lack of lighting preventing all of the action to be clearly discernable in the mostly shot on dark sets. Still, the lack of grain and video noise helped make it look almost as good as a late night cable flick with the mainstream sensibility kept in mind at all times. The sex was mostly shot in an erotic manner though so your mileage may vary as to how strokable it will be for you, the abundance of dissolves and edits combining with the motion of the camera to weaken some of the action. The bitrate varied but often hovered around the 7 to 8 Mbps range; a soft haze used at times to mask some of the realities of the cast's physical appearance. There were few compression artifacts seen in the show and the edge enhancement on display was minimal though, making this one a good couples flick for those wanting something better acted than an Adam & Eve title but with production values mid range to a Wicked Pictures effort. One of the cuter aspects of the movie was the intermittent use of animation to detail some of the nastier violence of the flick; something that I appreciated more than a little bit as adding a light touch. The audio was one of the highlights of the DVD with the 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround in English, sporting a 448 Kbps bitrate that was markedly better than most efforts on the market of late. Some of the music was a bit distorted but the vocals were easily heard in most cases and it was clear that some attention was provided to this area of the presentation, unlike most shows these days. The music was often well made and credited to DJ 8.25, the sound effects adding some appealing depth at times as well. I was curious as to why there were some "beeps" left in at the 16:42 minute mark, almost as if something was not caught in quality control (but those of you watching it as a stroke flick will skip it as readily as most reviewers probably will so it shouldn't be a big problem).

Body of Review: Andres Tabogo is a new director working for a new company called Pulpo. Their first movie was Black Worm, a feature porno that dealt with a very light mobster plot involving death, deception, and a fair amount of couples sexual exploits. As with any first project for a new company headed by a brand new director, that leaves a lot of questions for the audience about to shell out their hard earned cash. Having heard the movie praised when early copies were distributed, I went to take a look at it a few days ago, finding it to be a decent rookie effort that was bigger on dialogue than plot or sex. The cover said it like this: "In a world of vicious cops, treacherous gangsters, and street violence, everyone plays by someone else's rules. Capo, a Northern Mexico gangster plots against one of his associates with the help of his girlfriend Carla. When his plan takes a different turn, Carla will do anything for her man." If you thought parts of Scarface rambled, you haven't seen anything yet but it wasn't a bad movie if you're into the gangster genre> That said, here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used:

Scene One: Lorena Sanchez, a very sexy Latina that has worked in a great many porn flicks of late, was up first as the featured lead (sexually and thematically) of the movie as a kept women. In a display of loyalty, she was sent to pleasure Van Damage, the aging male actor showing better success with his dialogue than instilling any heat in the scene he had with her in bed. The best part about the scene was her slow motion strip tease but the camera movement and multitude of fades/dissolves made the dark scene a bit tough to watch; an area that I hope the director cleans up in future efforts. The couple got sweaty and there was some attempt to show her as an active vaginal cock rider, Damage turning beet red as the scene continued, adding some foot fetish action from time to time for the people into it. I greatly disliked that the scene was edited into the next one, a trick that even Vivid has backed away from of late given the consumer response. It ended with Damage stroking off on her back at the same time the other couple was being "taken care of" by the thugs, further weakening it in my book.

Scene Two: Mikayla, another lean Latina worth checking out, was up next in part shown during the last scene but more footage of her screwing Justice Young was included afterwards; in a flashback/flash forward dynamic that some of you might like more than I did. The footage of her slobbing his knob was decent and showed her aggressive talents to their fullest and the rippling ass cheeks added some visual appeal as well but it was shown in montage form and that weakened the effect of the stroke factor for me substantially; the sex ending before the completion point (and the music was the worst of the movie by far).

Scene Three: Lorena Sanchez, still looking great, was up next in a masturbation montage that employed a lot of visual effects including some blue screen styled backgrounds as though the viewer was supposed to be on acid. Don't get me wrong, her caressing her body was pretty hot but the rose petal effect and lack of hardcore action in the scene made it look like many late night cable offerings to make a proper comparison.

Scene Four: Lorena Sanchez, wearing a sexy green dress that really enhanced her lean figure, was up next as she came on to Tony Desergio as part of a scam to rip him off. They necked in the hallway before going back to his room; her thong clearly visible through the outfit as she gyrated on top of him in bed. Once again, she provided an active ride on his cock in her mouth and on top of him in bed, her cookie impaling itself on her in the darkened room as she actively rode his rod. The camera angles used here were such that minimal editing will make it an R rated flick but it ended with a belly pop for those who care. The music was rapid paced and seemed fitting for the rendezvous, even if too loud as it partial covered the vocals.

Scene Five: Alektra Blue and Lorena Sanchez, were up next in a lesbian scene intertwined with a short, grainy, cultish styled male/female rape scene with a bald guy (who looked like Christian XXX). The lesbian action was pretty standard in many ways with the two cuties doing each other on a bed, concentrating their efforts on the oral pleasuring of each other. It was yet another attempt at style being shot at night but if you're looking for something less graphic to share with a newbie to porn, it might serve you really well as a gateway project if you can get by the camera movement.

Summary: Black Worm by director Andres Tabogo for Pulpo was a better first feature than many others in porn have made in the past but it had a number of basic flaws expected of a freshman director too. Still, the technical limitations and weak plot were offset by the stronger elements and I found it worth a rating of Recommended as a decent couples offering sexually, as long as your partner likes gangster movies. Lorena Sanchez and the others did a better job of high school level acting than bigger budget titles have in the past but Black Worm was otherwise best remembered by me as offering a decent audio track. Director Tabogo proved to have some potential that I hope he lives up to in future efforts, this title was just a bit lacking compared to some of the hype it had been given.
