First Impressions:
It's a full blown hardcore spectacle including a cast of several and an actual tiger. Actually, it's a suck and fuck spoof of the classic Robert Rodriguez film which experimented with look and design to bring digital filmmaking to the forefront. Come to think of it, it's an attempted nookie noir, the narrative elements of Sin City melded into a new XXX version of the tale. Actually, it's a clear case of style over sexual substance, a compendium of hardcore possibilities limited by the decision to drag out the mainstream movie's storyline over three (or more) endless installments of erotic. In fact, a good way to gauge the success of Sex City 2 (yes, there is a Sex City 1, and a Sex City 3) is to look at the two previous reviews of the film on this site. DVD Talk hero "Dandy" Don Houston felt the film deserved a Rent It, while the cool and considered Colonel Mustard (who LOVED the first installment) still believes this series a Highly Recommended romp through expertly crafted carnality. Actually, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. One does have to give Pierre Woodman credit. He ALMOST recreates the look and feel of the original film, and sticks so closely to the plot that there's very little suspense or surprise. On the other hand, the European ideal of successful hardcore – all heat and fire – can provide some interesting erotica.

The Sex Scenes:
Attempting the seamless meshing of fornication with exposition, Sex City 2 frequently stumbles in the shuck and jive department. Of the ten scenes offered, more than a couple are qualified quickies – one or two meaningless positions, a pop (or not) and then on with the show. When he stays around long enough to let the XXX material mature and evolve, a real sense of passion and performance comes across. Indeed, where Sex City 2 fails is in a combination of homage and humping. Woodman wants this to be as close to the real thing as possible, and when he does succeed, the results speak for themselves. The other perplexing problem is the oversized cast. The credits go on for nearly nine minutes, Woodman intent on showing EVERY character in the film – even those who do not perform in sex or dialogue scenes and are nothing more than overvalued extras. This means that when the balling begins, we really don't know whose zooming whom. Aside from a couple of recognizable faces, (Mya Diamond, Laura Lion) and the use of the same mannered meat puppets throughout, the groin grinding grows generic rather quickly. It could be anyone contributing to Woodman's erotic eye candy, and more times than not, that's exactly what it feels like.

The most memorable element of this entire first scene is that actor Reda Semlahen (at least, that's who the Dirge THINKS it is) manages the rare double drop as he pounds away on two nameless lasses. The action is aggressive, the lame ass dubbing bringing an air of unintentional comedy to the proceedings (especially when Woodman's camera catches a gal's face in full moan, and a MAN'S grunt comes pouring out of the speakers). Still, what starts off intriguing grows less and less so along the way, leading us to drift off into contemplation of what Sin City narrative element this movie will rip off next.

Another trio – another tricky bit of erotica evaluation. Setting does help in this case, our ménage making whoopee on and around a plush pool table. But Woodman begins to develop a pattern here, and it goes far beyond the constant visual gimmick of switching between black and white and color. Call it a 'set up and hold' dicking dynamic, a situation in which the girls get good and stuffed, position themselves perfectly for the best camera angle possible, and then pound away like mothers trying to tenderize a piece of cheap chuck. It's fiery at first, but begins to grow dull after a while. Sadly, it's the sexual circumstance this film will follow for the rest of its inordinately long running time.

In another example of Sex City 2's less than triumphant trickery, we witness a scene between another of our main characters and some random gal that's interrupted at least three times. Even worse, we are left without the defining moment of a male/female fuck fest – a money shot. Instead, Woodman takes us to more plot, which doesn't help the erotica release factor at all.

Undoubtedly one of the best scenes in the set, our leading lady gets good and gooey as three different dicks explore her willing nether regions. It's a wonderful sequence, loaded with intense action, interpersonal passion, and some excellent camera work. Thanks to the main focus of this rousing exchange – our actress's amazing rack – there is lots of bosom brandishing to be enjoyed. While our mopey meat puppets are no great shakes in the dick delivery department, our horny honey really sells the sex here. It makes for a highly charged sequence of suck and fuck.

Scene 5: One Girl, One Guy

Pointless, especially since our actor lasts about two minutes total. For dude's who have ejaculatory incompetence, this sequence will put your staying power perceptions at ease.

Another little throwaway moment, interrupted several times and adding virtually nothing erotic to the overall atmosphere of the film.

While not as meaningful as other sex sequences here, at least we're not dealing with some minor positional puffery. The action is interesting and the connection between the actors palpable. All in all, a fairly decent exchange of body ballistics.

Thanks to the increased attention to the ass, as well as the introduction of some female oral, this eighth piece of proto-porn is actually pretty decent. We don't really care about the lack of personal proclivity, and the tone set by Woodman throughout the entire film really lets the loving down. Still, there are some sensational moments of meat in mons manipulation that more or less keeps our interest.

About as mannered and artificial as same sex sequences can get. To say that these lovely ladies are going through the static Sappho motions is putting things mildly. They act like pretenders to the pornographic throne, not gals getting gratuitous for the sake of some lesbian loving. While the glass toys do add a nice dynamic, and these wenches do work each other's goodies with determined abandon, there is no heat here. Sadly, this is really par for the course when it comes to girl on girl gladhanding.

By this point, we no longer care about anything Sex City 2 has to offer. The plot is purposely moving through the later half of Sin's storyline number two, a whole new gaggle of extras has been introduced, individuals that one imagines will play a bigger role in Part Three, and the copulation has grown redundant and routine. As a result, we just want the movie to end, curious to see where Woodman stops the action. The answer, oddly enough, is right smack dab in the middle.

Earning an extra point for artistic creativity and taking into consideration the fact that many hardcore fans really appreciate the Continental style of suck and fuck, Sex City 2 earns the slightest Recommended that's reasonable. There will be those who hate the over-reliance on narrative, wondering when story became as important as penetration to the XXX title, and anyone whose a true lover of the original film will find this silly spoof to be rather disrespectful of what Rodriguez and Miller actually created. Couples clearly won't care about all the references and aesthetics. They will simply see the intense if still tempered action and agree – a Cohabitation Certification is easily awarded. While not creating enough interest in this critic to catch installments one or three, Sex City 2 still has a great deal of fornication fun with the adult industry standard of lampooning mainstream hits. It may not always work, but it's definitely worth a look.
