The Movie
Some things are meant to be together. Peanut butter and jelly. Batman and Robin. Lingerie and super models. The list could go on and on. But one thing's for certain, clowns and adult films will not be on that list. Nope. Clowns and adult films just definitely do not mix. Unfortunately, Vixen features just that very thing.

Whether your watching an adult film alone or with a partner, you want the sex to be hot. Something you can really get into. Just like any other movie, you want to be in the film. This can't happen when you're overcome by a fit of laughter. For us, this is exactly what happened during a scene in which Mickey G is dressed as a clown while having his way with Anne Marie in the kitchen just after a kid's birthday party. The sex would've been great if it weren't for the make-up, the big shoes, the bulbous red nose, and the neon green wig.

The scenes don't get much better when the entire cell block, both prisoners and guards, of the local prison (all of whom are wearing wigs or psychedelic hats) watch Anton Michael have his way with the "crack whore from the woman's center." Again, the sex itself is more than adequate, but the setup is so surreal, it actually ruins the scene. Then again, maybe we were still chuckling about the clown scene.

The worst part about the funny feeling these scenes give viewers is that the rest of the film is some of the best. Red hot Brianna Banks gives her all as the title character, if not in the acting then at least during her two sex scenes. Anyone watching her perform knows she's having fun and that she's doing something she's definitely good at.

Our favorite scene featured Cheyenne Silver and Chloe Dior having more than enough fun in a bar with a patron who was more than happy to please them both. This was the opening number and we thought we were in for another top notch film, but instead, that feeling was interrupted by a clown.

But perhaps we're being a little too harsh on the whole clown thing. Many viewers could overlook the whole idea, or simply fast forward through that part. But for the couples who are prone to giggles, or for those looking for a film to set the mood for the evening, Vixen probably isn't your best bet.

The DVD
Although the feature presentation let us down a bit, this DVD more than makes up for it in extra features. Sure, there's no commentary (which would've been nice considering the clown topic) but the disc does offer five bonus scenes with the lovely ladies from the main feature. At least two of these are worthy of repeat viewings and are worth the price of admission. The clip from Heartbreaker with Brianna Banks, Kelsey, and Michael J. Cox actually made us consider heading out and renting the video.

The disc also offers three photo galleries, a not-so-funny out take/blooper reel, and some behind-the-scenes footage.

The audio and video (2.0 and full frame) are on par for current standards in adult DVDs. The multiple angles for the film are a nice touch, but in the end, the main angle is the best angle.

…I hate to admit it, but yes, one scene can ruin a film. After the opening number, I thought for sure Vixen would offer some great sex. And for the most part, it does. But unfortunately, the clown scene ruined the mood. It's next to impossible to watch with a straight face. Which is too bad, because Banks and some of the other girls are hot in this one, and they deserve our undivided attention…something I wasn't able to give them.

…Vixen has lots of great sex, but it also has a clown and a really weird prison scene. I didn't know if I should laugh, or cringe. So I ended up doing both. But Beast has it right. The rest of the sex is great, but it just can't mask the mood change that occurs during those two scenes. For couples totally comfortable around one another, go ahead and at least rent this one. If nothing else, you can fast forward through the "offensive" material. But for couple just learning to enjoy adult DVDs together, this might be one to skip altogether.
