Roku Says Goodbye to Porn Channels

NEWS & PRESS

Porn fans with Roku players will have to turn to other devices to get their porn star fix as of March 1, 2022.

Roku is dropping support for “non-certified” private channels in favor of beta channels that are limited to 20 users.

That’s potentially better for testers but a headache for adult content providers who used those channels to get around Roku’s restrictions on regular channels.

This means no more porn channels on its platform as of March. Porn companies affected by the Roku ban include Adult Time, Bang, Devil’s Film, Hustler’s Barely Legal, Elegant Angel, Lethal Hardcore, Pornhub, Vivid Video, and Wicked Pictures, just to name a few.

The anti-porn group NCOSE (formerly known as Morality in Media) has previously targetted Roku just as they have Pornhub.

NCOSE has called Roku “a major contributor to sexual exploitation.” They went on to say, “Roku is making money off of family-friendly companies like Disney, PBS, Hallmark, and more! But these companies are unaware of the fact that Roku allows pornographers to use its systems.

It’s unclear if pressure from these anti-porn crusaders played a direct part in their decision to remove porn from their platform, but it does look like it.
