Ricci Levy has been engaged in sexual freedom activism for several decades.  In 2003, she helped found the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, a nonpartisan, nonprofit human rights organization dedicated to defending the personal autonomy of all individuals.

As the Executive Director, then President and CEO, Ricci has led Woodhull for more than twenty years. Ricci has toured the nation, giving testimony and speaking at conferences, frequently highlighting divisive topics in a way that allows cooperative discourse to create bonds and coalitions. Since its founding, the Foundation has argued for sexual freedom as a fundamental human right that deserves a place among hard-fought liberties, including freedom of expression, the right to family, and the right to privacy. Woodhull works alongside allies representing particular issues, identities, and communities while simultaneously acting as an umbrella advocate for sexual rights as a whole, whether discussing the legitimacy of all consenting families or successfully imploring Congress to eliminate condoms as evidence of prostitution.

Denying or threatening our fundamental human right to sexual freedom, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation seeks to modify laws, policies, and practices across a spectrum of topics with one thing in common. Domestic partner benefits were included into same-sex marriage thanks in great part to Woodhull, a detail at danger in the original law.

They played a key role in the termination of Washington DC’s “Prostitution Free Zones,” which infracted on legally defensible rights and testified and lobbied from a human rights perspective on behalf of efforts to end the practice of shackling incarcerated women during labor and childbirth in Florida prisons.

Woodhull also effectively pushed to get the rules on sexting between minors changed.

Apart from fostering legislative, judicial, and corporate responsibility and advancement, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation is the most powerful voice coming from the intersection of sexual rights and human rights, insisting that the United States defend human rights, including those pertaining to sexual freedom, instead of restricting them. The leading plaintiff in Woodhull Freedom Foundation vs. the United States, Woodhull was the lone Federal challenge to the lethal FOSTA unlawful legislation.
