It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Summer, a beloved figure in the adult industry, who left us at the age of 61.
Born on July 22, 1962, in the sun-kissed state of California, Karen Summer grew up in the San Fernando Valley, cradled in a showbiz family. Her father, an Oscar-nominated sound engineer, instilled in her a profound appreciation for the arts, paving the way for a vibrant career in show business.
Karen’s journey in the entertainment world began with humble beginnings, involving numerous roles as an extra, photo double, and stand-in in the mainstream movie industry. Her dedication and talent shone through, leading her to work as a stand-in and production assistant for the hit TV series ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ from 1983 to 1985. She was also in Fast Times at Ridgemont High in an uncredited role as a high school student.
The pinnacle of her career was marked by her remarkable tenure in the adult industry, where she starred in over 200 films, beginning in 1982. Karen’s passion, versatility, and resilience in her roles captivated audiences, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
She starred in some true porn classics, including Confessions of a Candy Striper, Miss American Dream, and Taboo 4 and 5. And let’s not forget she starred in one of the original porno parodies called Rocky X with the world-famous John Holmes. Yes, THAT John Holmes.
Karen Summer was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2015 and into the XRCO Hall of Fame in the same year.
Her departure was sudden, following a hospitalization since around Thanksgiving, as reported by industry friends and associates, including Kianna Bradley.
Karen’s legacy in the entertainment world will be cherished and remembered by her colleagues, fans, and all who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Karen Summer, a shining star in her right, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and admirers. Her spirit, contributions, and memories will forever be etched in our hearts.
“Though her smile is gone forever and her hand we cannot touch, we still have so many memories of the one we loved so much. Her memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has her in his keeping; we have her in our heart.”
Rest in peace, Karen Summer. You will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
