The art of pole dancing will take center stage later this month when Vivid Cabaret New York hosts its pole dance competition on Thursday, September 17, at 9 p.m.
The contest, returning after popular demand, will see the club’s performers demonstrate aerial routines on Vivid’s signature 28-foot pole, the tallest of its kind in the city. Judges will include not only staff but also the audience, whose cheers and applause will help determine the winners. Cash prizes are on the line
While pole dancing is often associated with nightlife, it has in recent years gained recognition as a demanding form of athletic performance. Competitions around the world highlight the strength, flexibility, and artistry involved, with some advocates lobbying for Olympic recognition.
“It’s thrilling watching the girls climb the giant pole,” said Bridget, one of the performers. “There are always sports guys in the audience — they appreciate the athletic skills. I like looking at their bodies,” she joked.
Vivid Cabaret, located at 61 West 37th Street, features multiple stages, private suites, and a rooftop cigar bar. The venue is known for attracting athletes and celebrities, with its VIP Ultra Lounge designed as a discreet space for high-profile guests.
The club said Thursday’s competition will also feature drink specials and music to match the high-energy routines.
“Pole dancing combines strength and performance,” said performer Roxanne. “It’s always exciting at Vivid with so many girls who love to put on a show.”
