OnlyFans has hired its first federal lobbyists

NEWS & PRESS

According to multiple online sources, OnlyFans has decided to hire its own federal lobbyist that will help educate policymakers who have been debating changes to the law that deals with platforms like OnlyFans — specifically, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act which safeguards internet platforms from liability for what their users post.

The provision has come under scrutiny from lawmakers in both parties primarily as a means of holding social media platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram accountable for what some lawmakers say is their role in spreading disinformation or fomenting violence — or for what others allege is censoring conservative viewpoints on the platforms.

OnlyFans is big business and a change in Section 230 could be devastating to the companies bottom line.

Only fans brought in almost $6 billion in revenue in 2021 and are on track to bring in $12.5 billion for 2022.

  • Over 50% of OnlyFans revenue is said to have come from paid subscriptions, while more than 30% came via chats. The rest was a combination of tips/streams and paid posts for free accounts.

Let’s hope that the federal lobbyist that OnlyFans hires is successful in educating Washington on the plight of online platforms which is how many sex workers make their living and I for one don’t want to put their income at risk of ending.
