OnlyFans CEO Ami Gan Speaks to Time Magazine

ONLYFANS

When Ami Gan took over as CEO of OnlyFans in December of last year, the industry was in a panic. It was at a time when performers weren’t sure if OnlyFans would allow adult content to continue using their platform or not. There were all kinds of crazy rumors, and people were in an all-out panic.

According to the Time magazine story, 2 million content creators use the platform, over 1,000 of which have earned more than a million dollars each.

Tim Stokely Steps Down as CEO of OnlyFans

As far as users go, they claim to have over 200 million registered users. These are the fans who subscribe to the content creator’s page. How does that compare to other social media platforms? Well … let’s take a look.

  • Facebook: 2.9 billion
  • Instagram: 1.4 billion
  • TikTok: 1 billion
  • SnapChat: 557 million
  • Pinterest: 444 million
  • Twitter: 436 million
  • Quora: 300 million
  • OnlyFans: 200 million

The difference is, OnlyFans isn’t free like the others are, as they employ a pay to play method. While it works a lot like Twitter, you have to pay to see the posts made by an OnlyFans creator, whereas you can see their Tweets for free.

OnlyFans existed before the pandemic, but at that time, things exploded. Almost overnight, the platform became a household name.

OnlyFans is based out of London and boasts 1,000 employees, of which Ami Gan says 80% are primarily dedicated to content moderation and support. That’s in addition to the automated moderation methods they also have in place.

“We also have very robust content moderation. Everything on OnlyFans, we see it, we’re able to view it, moderate it, and make sure that everyone is following our terms of service. While we do use some automated technologies to help us prioritize content, ultimately, everything on the site is reviewed by a human,” Ami Gan tells Time.

Ami Gan goes on to discuss with Time magazine how they are 100% behind adult content creators.

“It’s still the misconception of the business. Or that we don’t embrace our adult creators. Those are two things that I’m actively working to change. The adult community hasn’t necessarily felt that support in the past. I’ve been very outspoken about embracing our adult creators. I have my own personal OnlyFans account that I use to see what the community is doing, follow creators, and most importantly, be able to connect directly with them and send them messages.”

It’s an interesting story indeed. You can read the full Time magazine story here.
