Gender Expression Products Manufacturer Providing Raffle, Swag Items for Sex Worker Advocacy Fundraiser
NEW YORK (October 31, 2019) – Gender expression products manufacturer New York Toy Collective (https://newyorktoycollective.com) is providing raffle and swag / giveaway items for Red Canary SCREAMS. Held Saturday, November 2 in Brooklyn, the event is a fundraising event for Red Canary Song, an organization advocating and providing resources for Asian migrant massage parlor workers in Flushing, Queens.
“Red Canary’s mission statement is in line with our core values; we are glad to support their work,” says NYTC co-founder Chelsea Downs. “FOSTA / SESTA have been devastating to the livelihood of sex workers, and it is more important than ever to show public solidarity, and support the rights of sex workers. NYTC has always been outspoken about politics, and the rights of migrant sex workers is no exception.”
Red Canary SCREAMS is a fundraiser for Red Canary Song and a historic grand gathering of the Asian American underground: queer, burlesque, drag, fetish, tattoo, and circus communities UNITE for an extravaganza of entertainment and eroticism. The event is a full afternoon of performances, as well as on-site kink experiences such as bootblacking, rope bondage, flogging, and hanky-code flagging. Tattoo, photographic, and sexuality coaching sessions will be up for bid in the silent auction, and prints, merchandise, and event-themed live embroidery will be available for purchase.
Red Canary Song (http://redcanarysong.org) is a grassroots organization, led by immigrant and Asian sex workers, survivors of trafficking, and labor organizers from adjacent movements. Established after the terrible tragedy of Yang Song, a Chinese massage sex worker, who fell to her death during a police raid in 2017, the organization also works closely with DecrimNY (https://www.decrimny.org), to ensure the most marginalized sex workers are protected in future decriminalization policies.
Red Canary Song has been recognized and awarded for service to the Asian community by Queens Assemblyperson Ron Kim and Chinatown Assemblyperson Yuh-line Niou; both politicians will attend the event, and will speak on their work and support of Red Canary Song and the decriminalization of sex work.
“We are incredibly grateful for the immense support of sex positive communities and businesses, such as NYTC,” says Yin Q, BDSM writer / educator and founder of Kink Out Events (https://www.instagram.com/kinkoutevents/), which is co-producing the event. “Come join us in celebration of erotic talents, kink, and Asian heritage, as we simultaneously raise funds for the dire work of Red Canary Song.” Yin Q is also the writer / creator of “Mercy Mistress” (https://mercymistress.com).
Red Canary SCREAMS will take place at Lot 45 Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY (http://www.lot45bushwick.com), from 2pm – 8pm on Saturday, November 2.
