Larry Walters of The Walters Law Group is this week’s guest on Adult Site Broker Talk.

Lawrence G. Walters heads up the Walters Law Group, concentrating on Internet law, intellectual property, gaming, and First Amendment issues. Mr. Walters has developed a passion for protecting civil liberties – in particular, online speech and expression.

He has devoted over 35 years to defending constitutional rights and protecting free speech. Mr. Walters is an accomplished civil rights advocate, a widely published author, and a well-known public speaker. He frequently represents clients in the online entertainment community, along with other more traditional industries.

Larry is often consulted as a national expert on legal issues about freedom of speech and the Internet. He regularly contributes to television news programs on networks such as NBC, ABC, PBS, BBC, CBC, FNC, MSNBC, CNBC, and CNN.

His high-profile cases are often followed by the print and online media, including the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and others. Larry began practicing law in Central Florida in 1988, after graduating from Florida State University, College of Law, with Honors. While in law school, he studied English common law at St. Edmund’s Hall in Oxford University and interned with a federal judge in the Northern District of Florida.

During his career, Walters has served as a Legal Studies professor at the University of Central Florida and acted as a director for the local bar associationand chamber of commerce. Among his many civic and community activities, he has served as Chair of the Legal Panel of the ACLU, Central Chapter. He is a founding member of the Advisory Council for the U.C.F. Legal Studies Department.

Larry also acts as General Counsel to the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, based in Washington, DC, and serves on the Advisory Council to the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection. He has established and directed numerous non-profit associations and trade groups. His efforts in helping fight online child exploitation earned him the Annual Service Recognition Award from the ASACP.

His undergraduate alma mater, the University of Central Florida, recognized Walters with “Outstanding Alumni” and “Professional Achievement” awards in 2011. Walters has earned an “AV” (preeminent) rating from lawyers.com, the industry-standard rating service for lawyers, and “10.0 – Superb” by AVVO.com, a popular online attorney rating service.

Since 2020, Mr. Walters has been recognized as a “Superlawyer” by Superlawyers.com, which awards that title to only the top 5% of lawyers. He has been recognized as one of the Top 100 News Makers by the media industry group, Xbiz, and was included in the top 10% in the ‘Best of the Bar’ competition, through a poll conducted by the Orlando Business Journal. He has been named First Amendment Lawyer of the Year on numerous occasions.

Mr. Walters began practicing First Amendment law in the late 1980s, representing video store owners in Florida facing obscenity charges. He created the Florida Bar’s First Amendment Law Committee in 1997 and chaired it for over ten years. Since then, he has advised hundreds of web operators worldwide on the Internet and intellectual property law. His cases often address issues such as advertising, interactive entertainment, free expression, Section 230 protections, DMCA, 2257 regulations, blockchain, and domain conflicts. Walters frequently engages in landmark litigation in adult media, gaming, and social platforms, with many victories achieved pro bono.

A respected voice in the field, Walters has delivered lectures nationwide on Internet law and First Amendment rights and is a prolific writer, contributing to numerous trade publications. In 2005, he joined the leadership of the First Amendment Lawyers Association, serving as National Chairman and President.Licensed to practice in Florida’s state and federal courts, Walters is also admitted before the U.S. Supreme Court, several federal circuits, and the U.S. Claims Court. He became certified by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada in 2016.
