Jamey Bell is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner and is the Medical Director of the Sexual Health Program at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the largest facility in the world providing health and social services to the LGBTQ+ community. Jamey also serves as Medical Director of PASS, the non-profit organization dedicated to the health and safety of adult industry workers.

Jamey, an ardent supporter of the rights of sex workers and the provision of accessible and secure healthcare for individuals in the adult industry, became a member of PASS’s board of directors in 2021. In September 2023, he was elevated to the position of medical director.

Jamey, who has over two decades of experience in healthcare and specializes in social justice in healthcare among marginalized populations, integrates his clinical acumen with empathy and concern for the well-being of his patients and the community.

Jamey obtained his master’s degree in community health and nursing with distinction from Ball State University in Indiana. Jamey is board-certified as a nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Practice.

PASS was established by the Free Speech Coalition in April 2011 as an extension of an earlier initiative to promote oversight and standardization of adult industry testing. PASS collaborates with entities that perform infectious disease and STI testing in Canada and the United States; these entities subsequently update their database with work clearance information. PASS commenced operations as an independent entity in May 2021.

Since the PASS database contains only binary yes/no ‘work clearance’ data, uploading individual test results is impossible. Clinical staff holding the appropriate credentials at the testing partner make work clearance determinations based on the outcomes reported by the testing panel. For seven STIs, the testing protocol mandates nine distinct tests. A 14-day clearance period is granted starting from the date of the initial sample collection.
