If you’ve ever created an OnlyFans account you’ll no doubt be familiar with the face-scanning identity verification method required to verify your account.
Recently Pornhub was falsely accused by an antiporn organization of not verifying the IDs of their content creators. Pornhub not only requires age verification but they have upped their game and now are apparently following OnlyFans in using advanced age verification which includes face scanning.
A lawsuit was filed against Pornhub which states that they don’t even ask a person’s age as part of the verification process.
This isn’t true. In fact, age checks have existed for years.
Anyone who has ever applied for the Modelhub program on Pornhub knows that you have to give your legal name, date of birth, a copy of your government ID as well as the photo verification of you holding a handwritten sign.
Now Pornhub has taken that a step further, to include the new “Know Your Customer” policy of scanning your facial features to make sure they actually match your government-issued ID.
Now when you upload content you need to verify that person’s ID and to do that a) the person must have a Pornhub account and b) you need their government-issued photo ID and c) You need a computer or smartphone with a camera to perform a live face scan, which is used to match.
OnlyFans uses a program to create a “geometric profile of their face” and compare it to “the biometric profile that it extracts from the user’s ID document to see if they match.” It’s assumed the Pornhub version works in a similar way.
We are unsure when they officially implemented this new feature but several content creators are reporting that they are being asked to face scan to verify their identities.
I hear that Elon Musk wants to use a similar method of ID verification for Twitter.
