Popular adult industry performer Ebony Mystique has become the latest victim in a string of social media account hacks targeting high-profile individuals. An online hacker, who identifies himself as Jake Gelato, has taken control of her Twitter account and is demanding $5,000 for its return.
The hacker, using Ebony Mystique’s verified X handle @ebonymystique1, has been sending direct messages to Ebony, boasting about his criminal activities.
“Every day I log into verified accounts and get $5000.00,” Gelato wrote. “I’ve been doing it for three years, you can’t scare me, try in vain. Now I’m asking you for the last time and you will get your accounts.”
In addition to holding her Twitter account hostage, the hacker has threatened to share Ebony Mystique’s driver’s license on Instagram and to shut down her Instagram account as well.
This is not the first time Ebony Mystique has encountered such threats. “As performers in the adult industry, we are constantly being threatened and blackmailed with our social media pages because hackers think we are rich and desperate,” she said. Ebony has taken her case to Twitter multiple times, only to receive automated responses from the platform.
“I want the public to know what’s going on, and hopefully, action will be taken,” she stated. “I have contacted Twitter several times about this, and all I am getting are bots replying. I just want them to see my ID and give my page back, and I can’t help but feel they don’t care. I just want other performers to know this is out there and not to negotiate with online terrorists such as him.”
Cyberattacks on social media accounts have become increasingly common, with hackers often targeting individuals with significant followings or verified accounts. The attacks usually aim to extort money or leverage personal information for further gain. The tactics include phishing scams, credential stuffing, and direct threats of personal data exposure.
Twitter has yet to respond to requests for comment on this particular case, and it remains unclear what measures, if any, they will take to address the situation.
This incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by individuals in the public eye, particularly those in the adult entertainment industry. Many performers rely heavily on their social media presence to connect with fans and promote their work, making them prime targets for cybercriminals.
Ebony Mystique is currently advising her followers to stay updated through her Instagram account @theebonymystiqueofficial. She continues to urge other performers and public figures to be vigilant about their online security and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
The need for robust security measures and responsive support from social media platforms has never been more critical. The case of Ebony Mystique highlights the pressing need for these companies to take proactive steps in protecting their users from malicious activities.
For now, Ebony Mystique and her supporters await a resolution, hoping that her experience will serve as a wake-up call for social media giants to enhance their security protocols and support systems.
