On May 29, Donny Long was deemed mentally deficient by the state and, as a result, was unable to stand trial. He was meant to be committed for six months, at which point they would re-evaluate him to see if he was able to stand trial.

916.15 Involuntary commitment of defendant adjudicated not guilty by reason of insanity.

It turns out Donny Long didn’t like living in a mental institution, so he had his lawyer file new documents. Two doctors evaluated him, and both agreed he was mentally fit enough to stand trial. His new trial date is set for October 7th.

If found guilty, he faces 30 years in jail.
