The XCritic Interview: Rebecca Vanguard

Let’s say that you are a beautiful woman who loves sex, who wants to make money off of your passion and make it big. Quality over quantity is making a return, and 2020 gave fans the time to sit down and find out who the best XXX performers in the world are. Every website and production company in the US, and I would assume all over the world, had to rethink a new way to keep the fans watching and give them the fantasies they seek during a raging pandemic that many porn stars willfully set out and still are on the sidelines to this day, but not Rebecca Vanguard.

Now, if you have never met Rebecca, she is this tall drink of water, with the most natural, stunning good looks. We begin talking about one of the great loves of my life in the business, her voice, and the amazing ways Rebecca reminds me so much of her as we begin talking. We exchange some stories and then start talking about this great love of mine with some grandiose admiration in the form of old war stories from our first trips on the road for the business. 

Rebecca Vanguard: I remember when I first met your girl in person, she does have a really great natural body. The first time I saw her, I was like “wow, damn!” Back then, her body was fucking amazing and now, seriously, it is like damn! 

Don Juan: She told me the other day, “Look, I finally grew a butt!” Then I had to correct her, “you have always had an amazing butt!” 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yeah, you “grew a butt.” More like, you got another one? Or this one is even bigger now? Come on! 

The charm of this amazing lady's personality is unlike anything you have ever seen. For me, I got to catch up with a person I admire so much and her love for the XXX industry and everyone that she meets is something everyone knows and everyone remembers about Rebecca Vanguard. When her publicist set this interview up, we were very excited as friends to just get to talk about the industry and how friends and loved ones have been doing. Rebecca is a very rare model by those standards. She is a fun-loving, very forward and "kind" combination if that makes any sense. She is that woman who could kick your ass, then melt your heart at the same time. Rebecca is a porn star who is the definition of strength and happiness in this industry. So, getting to talk about Girlsway, shooting for Casey Calvert, it is something I had been waiting years for, that is all that I will say. 

I am going to tell her, “come on girl, you need to leave something for the rest of us!" She has these amazing sized hips and this tiny waist. So, seeing that ratio now, I would be like “oh, God damn!” 

Don Juan: You seriously always make me think of her whenever we talk and that is because she says the same wonderful things about you. You both have that charming laugh and you both giggle at the same point as you describe what is beautiful about the other person. First off, thank you for taking the time for this. I have been looking forward to this day for a very long time. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Thank you for having me. You know OnlyFans, podcasts and interviews are booming and I have been learning to make time and have fun with it all. It takes some getting used to. I can get carried away and once I did not even realize that I was live for a podcast until the very end of the interview. That is just me. Hey, I am a porn star, I have nothing I can hide, right? 

Don Juan: Oh my God, that is so funny. You know, I get carried away whenever I conduct an interview, especially when it is with one of my homies. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Well, this means a lot to me, and getting to be on all these shows, and have all these amazing things happen lately, it has been great. I tell every new performer that I meet, “you have to stick it out, you have to work hard and these things will come your way.” There are so many podcasts and people that I love and have followed. Which makes getting to be a part of them is really special. Getting to work with Girlsway was very special to me. 

Don Juan: You know, it is awesome to see you growing and getting these amazing roles and opportunities. You have always had that look of a true model and it is not just your height. It is your body, those legs, your face. You are just a runway model through and through. It is just not that common to see in our side of the business, or in mainstream for that matter these days. 

Rebecca Vanguard: I do try to cultivate the best posts for my Twitter wall most of the time. I do try and keep it sexy. 

Don Juan: Darlin’ getting to interview you for your work with Adult Time is as good as it gets for me. When I began to do research, I saw that they have yet another scene that is out, with you in one of the starring roles. Rebecca, you do deserve this and I have always thought the world of you in this context since the moment I met you. I wished that we would have gotten to talk longer when we first met, because getting to tell you in person, just how much this means to the business, it is something every writer looks forward to. I always saw such potential in your work as well. You have rare this kind of composure. A type of composure that is only seen with people who love all that they do. That is what creates greatness in this industry in my opinion.

Rebecca Vanguard: I try to just not be a giant bitch. I can be one at times, that is for sure. Now, don’t get me wrong, being nice and kind, that is what I try to be with everyone that I meet.

Don Juan: Well doll, what I love the most is being able to showcase who you are to the world at large. In this interview, I want to show people Rebecca Vanguard of course. The porn star, the actor but even more so, the woman whose dedication is something so massive. I feel so lucky that I also get to help tell the tale of a company that I know you have dreamed of working for since you began. You have come a long way and how you got here was through never giving up and working your ass off girl. That I love!

Rebecca Vanguard: Yes, getting to work with a big company like Adult Time is what I think everyone dreams about when you get into the industry and you start understanding who is who. This has given me so much confidence in myself. I just recently began to pitch them my brand and products to try and become one of their online creators. 

Don Juan: Oh, no shit. That is fucking awesome darlin’! I would love to see what you could do when creating your own fantasies. You are a woman who loves sex, loves the business, and is good to so many. I think that is the perfect fit for Adult Time and what they are doing in 2020. 

Rebecca Vanguard: I have begun to look into a lot more with companies like Adult Time. I would love to have my own little channel with Adult Time. I have lots of ideas, and I am trying to focus on a couple at the moment. So, yeah, fingers crossed!

Don Juan: Oh, I am rooting for you sweetheart. You are such a hard worker and as long as I can remember, you have always worked your fucking ass off. In my opinion, it is all hard work that really deserves the press and the opportunities in this industry. You are a woman who cares about this business and you care about the people in it. That is what will lead this industry into the future. 

Rebecca Vanguard: The other day, I was getting a bit sentimental. I have been in this business for over three years now and you cannot forget the girls that passed away and all the happenings like that. I was revisiting a lot of moments like that the other day. Some people would say that is depressing but at the same time, you can not let yourself forget about the people who came before you. You have to always make sure to remember those faces. I think that there were lives lost that did not need to be lost you know? 

Don Juan: Oh, more than you know my friend and I completely agree with you. I remember we were talking about this very thing last year and it is true like you said, we can not forget about such things or people. These things happen so that we can learn from them and make things better. Learning to share what we feel with others, just like we did when we first became friends, that is a must in life. Talking about the business and the people that have come into our lives so briefly. Remembering them is so important, even if it does bring on tears. I think that the fact that you are still this wonderful, kind-hearted human being says so much about you. Anger is something we all feel and anger is something that can make us better people when we conquer the fear that it creates in the world. 

Rebecca Vanguard: No, you are so right. You have to feel it and you have to feel it to the fullest and try to move on but sometimes, you just have to feel those feelings deep and understand them in order to do so. 

Don Juan: I loved getting to finally research you. I had no idea that you were from South Dakota. You know stupid me, I had always thought that you were from Florida. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Those two places have the same kind of vibe in many ways, so I get that. 

Don Juan: Well, my boo, she told me so much about you before we even met. The industry in Florida, it is so different from Los Angeles. The way that you perform and the sexiness that you bring to the table has that Florida vibe to it, if that makes any sense whatsoever. I dig the Florida girls, even though a lot of people in the industry give them shit. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yes, I agree. I think that you can honestly say that I did begin my career in Florida in so many ways. My first agent and agency were in Florida and that was Conor Coxxx and Coxxx Modeling. I also did a lot of fetish in Florida and I went to Fet-Con every single year. I am super sad that Fet-Con is canceled this year. I was sick last year and I had to go home, so I have not gone in almost two years!

Don Juan: See, now I am a little bummed because that Fet-Con was one that you were at and I would have gotten to meet your amazing self even sooner being that I have always covered Fet-Con. We are just going to have to make up for it at the next one. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yeah, that sounds cool. Also, it is such a bummer that AVN won’t be in person either this year. Well, we will all be online, so we will all probably be doing something. I think it is going to be kind of strange doing things online as opposed to doing them in person. At least we will get to save money. 

Don Juan: Babe, have you ever heard of the stories from the older performers about how glitzy and glamorous AVN once was? I mean I am not trying to knock AVN, but I have had so many of my friends who have retired, who speak of that event being so different back in the day. I would love to have a time machine and just go back there to check it out. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yes, I have. There are a few stories here and there that I picked up during the times that I have gone to AVN. Sometimes I wish I could have been in that era of porn but at the same time, the era of porn that we are all a part of now, it is so interesting and pivotal. There are a lot of things that are changing and yes, somethings are imploding on themselves. Maybe we will one day be talking about how good we had it like they did. I am a person who likes destruction. Well, let me say it this way. From destruction comes rebuilding and when that happens, it creates something that is so much better than what was previously there. Think of it like a phoenix rising from the ashes. I am really interested to see what it is that the industry and porn are going to become in the next two to three years. Can you imagine in ten years? Man, it is going to be an entirely different ballgame. I want to be that person who looks at things with reality and optimism, not with pessimism. 

Don Juan: No, darlin’ you are one-hundred percent right and you are speaking a truth that is about seeing what comes next, what people will create. I have been thinking the same thing as this quarantine has been going down, and we all have so much time on our hands to think. See, what I love about your opinion, and correct me if I am wrong, you pretty much began your career as an indie performer and then you began your career with big production, correct? 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yeah, pretty much. The first guy that I ever did a scene with, it was his clips store that we were shooting for. At the same time, we were friends, and then we dated for a while. My first shoot was a collaboration and I also technically made some clips with him, that were meant to be “trade” content but at that time I did not get all the proper paperwork. That meant I could not legally use everything myself, so I do not have them anymore. So yeah, I would say that you are one-hundred percent correct. That is where I got my start, by doing a lot of fetish. I did a lot of amateur and pro-am work when I started. I like to tell many of my fans who see me shooting the big films now, that my work back then, no matter if it was straight sex or fetish, it was something very meaningful for me. It contained a lot of great things that I enjoyed doing. I will be the first one to tell you that I have known and seen first hand what the power can be of the independent producer. 

Don Juan: Dollface, you are just something special. You are always growing and moving forward in this business. 

Rebecca Vanguard: I learned that you can get a ton of eyes on you that way. I would not take back one day of my career and how everything began. I think that I am a better porn star now, especially when it comes to hardcore. I did a lot of fetish back then, where we had role-play and all sorts of kinky interactions that were more than just a regular orgasm or performing. 

Don Juan: Oh yes, you are preaching to the choir sweetheart. I have been seeing more and more indie stuff come full circle, and fans are loving it. I enjoy getting to spotlight those performers because that is a dedication that does not get enough credit. Honestly, that is what your generation in the industry is going to be known for. It was you guys who started all of it and that came from a deep passion, not just a way to make money doing something that you liked. You are a woman who I have seen post so much creativity in what she does with just her Twitter. Seeing you have that voice, and then seeing that voice get discovered by say an Adult Time, or a Girlsway director. That is what makes everything meaningful and how the industry is about everything being included like this to make something bigger. I think it is a great thing for the business. To have you a part of what they are creating, especially if you get your own channel with Adult Time, that would make for the coolest story.

Rebecca Vanguard: Definitely. One of my main goals is to work on representation and this has led me to try more things. I love to write just like you do. What I am working on now is all the technical stuff, like doing covers for the content I create. I think fans are going to love what I am trying to create for them by growing as a porn star like you said. I have some things that I am going to be turning into some great collections. I can’t give away too much of what I am doing. 

Don Juan: Yes darlin’ you have to build up the suspense and the seduction. I think it is really cool that you are attempting to do things that you have never tried before. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Oh, I will be the first to admit that I am not the smartest person when it comes to a lot of things but now that I have been trying new things, something like Adobe Premiere does not seem that frightening anymore. I have been learning to use that pretty well. I think that will begin to make things a little easier if I can work my way up to learning how to use Adobe Photoshop. That has been a long-term goal for me and yes, I think getting to work with the people that I have as of late, it has inspired me to try more things. My channel with Adult Time and getting something created on Hot Movies, those are my two goals for the near future. 

Don Juan: I think that is something that will bring back a lot of the togetherness that the industry used to have. It will make more people work together so that they can grow together. I mean I hear so many stories like that. People basically coming together for a greater good and goal. When you see the judgmental eye of society's view of us, it is now more than ever that sharing such knowledge and ways of the industry are so important. Coming together is a great thing.

Rebecca Vanguard: Why thank you for saying that and I think that I have such great ideas and plans to become that person who can learn and master so much. Each day I get closer to that goal. I am almost there in terms of making enough money to where I can really start things up, and I am excited to do so. You say so many great things and I want to respond to them all. I get so ADHD when it comes to talking with other people about creating things. 

Don Juan: Well, the fact that I am a blabbermouth and going a hundred fucking miles an hour as we conduct this interview does not help. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yeah, see, it is all you, maybe that is what is happening here. 

Don Juan: OK, so now we get to talk about the ultra-fun questions I have been dying to ask you. What was the day like when you got the call to work for Girlsway? I mean that had to have been an exciting day. I would love to hear this story. I think the fans would as well. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Oh, that must have been the one for Casey Calvert and that was the first time that I had ever worked with them. I got lucky with the first shoot because if I remember correctly, there was a cancellation and I got booked at the very last minute. So I did not have a lot of time to feel excited. It literally was a next day booking. I got the call the night before the shoot and it was with Alison Rey. I have to tell you, first of all, I always get a little nervous whenever I am working with any new companies, actors or directors. So, I always have a hard time sleeping the night before. I think I had to be there at eight in the morning too. Adult Time has some very early call times. I was definitely excited, and I was just so happy that my co-star was going to be Alison Rey. At that point, I did not know her super, super well. I of course had known of her work because she is such an amazing actress. Let’s just say that I knew enough about her that the first thing I said to myself was, “yeah, I like her.” I think that it was my tremendously loud orgasm that day that inspired Casey to rehire me. I think I can say that rings true for all the shoots I have done with Casey and Adult Time.

If only you could hear Rebecca’s joyful laugh. It is music to anyone’s ear who loves porn, performance, and seeing people enjoy what they do. Don Juan: Darlin’ what you have as a performer, it is something that is so unique to this industry. It is something that should have been thought up years ago, and it is that wonder of how you perform, bring reality into your work. Any person who reviews porn, the only way that you stay sane is that you look for who is a performer, who is it that is having fun at their job. You approach every scene with the intention of creating real sex. I do not think that fans have ever seen that. They are used to everyone creating this grand spectacle, when the truth about sex is that it is not conventional most times. It is not always the sexiest thing. Let’s speak about the reality of people. Most people and I was going to say porn fans, but the truth is that everyone is bad at this. Most are bad at talking with women. Few have had many intimate moments with the opposite sex, and I am talking about people who are in a relationship as well. The ugliness of sex is a wonderful reality. The “fuck faces,” the grunting, the moaning, the sweat, we need more of that so desperately. You show that all in the most entertaining way. I mean that. I hope that you always look to continue this with what you do in this industry.

Rebecca Vanguard: I agree. I try and take every opportunity, I try to take every scene and make it something that I can turn into something a little more realistic, or as real as it can become. It is still a production and we are actors. Making something honest and real. Those are things I want to be known for always.

Don Juan: I remember the first time that I got assigned your work, and what I remember the most was that the fans were all leaving comments for the production company to have you back. You were working with a very well known male performer and you approached that scene the real way that a woman would approach a sexual encounter like that. It was that day I began rooting on your career. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Well thank you. That scene that you are referencing, I think it was with Derek Pierce and what I really appreciated, what I appreciate all the time, is when my scene partner is really into things. Or at a minimum, that they are acting like they are. He went down on me and it was so amazing and I do not think that they prompted him to do so, I do not know, I can not remember. What I do remember is that it made the scene so much better. Let me just say this to all men out there. If you go down on a woman, it can really inspire her, just so you know, hint, hint.

Don Juan: Darlin’ have you ever worked with Isiah Maxwell? 

Rebecca Vanguard: Yes, yes I have. I finally just got to work with him recently too. I know just where you are going with this. Yes, it was just like you said. It was something that was so far on the “realistic” side of the scenes that I have done. The director told me when we were shooting, “I do not know if you should be making those kinds of faces in the scene.” He had the fans in mind during the shoot, and he wants them to like what they are seeing. I think that is what makes the way I perform something very special. Porn in a way has gotten to the point where there are a lot more things fake than there should be. When you are moaning “Ohhhhhh, ohhhhhhhh” and you have a completely relaxed face, and your only goal is to look sexy the whole time. The fans know what is going on, they are not dumb. The fans are smarter than we give them credit for. A lot of the time when I watch porn, I watch porn with the volume off because of this.

Don Juan: Oh, fucking-a! I mean when you know the motions and you see them coming from a mile away, it takes away all the promise and value of the scene. I think veteran porn fans see that in a heartbeat and do the same thing. Especially women. That is what I loved about your two scenes. I mean God damn woman, you really stole the show with your Adult Time debut and second subsequent scene. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Well, I think that when you come into adult, especially if you have been an actor, there are some things that you need to unlearn. I know that I sure had to. Modeling and porn, have their own positions like you said “motions” that are different from any other form of modeling there is. When I was new to porn, I had modeling experience at other times in my life. Bathing suits, lingerie, glamour modeling along with tasteful nude modeling. That is nothing at all like fucking porn modeling. I was so unprepared for that. That is why I am just flattered by how you see my performances and my style. 

Don Juan: I see so many performers entering this business with so much talent. Yes, I do compare your style to Maitland Ward in so many ways and it is that style that I think will become more and more common in today’s porn world. You both have a reality that I think has never been seen, or shot down by a lot of directors. I think it is great and so sexy in a real way.

Rebecca Vanguard. I look at performers like her, like Sasha Grey and I think that if more of us were able to make that jump to mainstream, like she did, there would be more people who gave us the credit that we deserve in the industry. I will be honest, I will say that not every porn star is “mainstream” material but some of the top performers in porn, they are just something special. I am a person who just gets that one of a kind feeling when you are working with someone, and she is just that damn good. Naturally, you can feel what they have inside them with everything that comes with working right beside them. 

Don Juan: You are walking right into the next question. I have to know what it was like working with Alison Rey. That scene on Girlsway is getting a ton of views, a lot of praise and it stems from exactly the things you just described. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Dude, like you said, it did look like the funnest day on set because it really was. I mean it definitely was! We did shoot some content together after that, so I think that means she had just as much fun as I did. Alison and I, we are just two models who have that “real” look. I know that people always say “the girl next door” and that is one way you can put it. I am the person who would say that I do not look “model-esque” and I do not mean that in a bad way. Alison, she is such a great actress. I was not expecting that at all with this shoot. I thought that maybe we would have a few lines of dialogue and that was it. I just had to stop and stare at times because she is that damn good. That is when I knew it was going to be a good scene and that we would be able to just vibe off of each other. Working with Aila Donovan after that was amazing. She is such a great actress. I love when a model is good with dialogue, and they are just able to roll with it, even if they are ad-libbing. Alison, she is just an amazing lesbian lover. She is also just so motivated. When we sat down for some trade content afterward she told me, “I do not want to overwhelm you with these ideas.” She was so thoughtful, so courteous. It meant so much to me as I was so in need of meeting a person like her when I did. There is no feeling like being able to go to work and you have someone who gives and cares as much as you do. It led to a lot of good for me at that moment in my career.

Don Juan: Woman, I am telling you, when I saw the marketing for that scene, I was just blown the fuck away by that alone. You both created one of the best damn vignettes of 2020. Now, to close out this amazing rendezvous, I have to ask you what it was like to work for the wonder known as Casey Calvert. I have so much respect and admiration for that gifted artist. She is a wonder of this industry and I would love to hear your insight about her and how she directs. 

Rebecca Vanguard: That was my first time just meeting her in general. I think that everyone is familiar with Casey Calvert once they get into the industry. I did not know at that time that she was directing for Girlsway. I think the reason that my two scenes worked so well, it was because Casey is such a “go-with-the-flow” director, yet still gets everything done that needs to get done. I think that because she is a performer herself, she understands truly what needs to happen for the scene to have that extra special something to become better that it strats out on paper, making it go from good to great. She has a crew that all work so well at coming together, making everything better with an extra effort themselves. She is a director who can gauge the situation with both people who are in front of the camera and that is so important. She made me feel at ease because of that. I felt like she knew exactly what I was thinking and going for in so many ways with my performance. 

Don Juan: My friend, I hope you know how much this has meant to me. I have been looking forward to this day for so long. I am so happy to hear that you are doing well and things in the business are happening for you in so many ways. You deserve the recognition, you deserve the praise and the press and I mean that with all my heart and being. Friend to friend, you are that person I have just had the utmost admiration and respect for. I will always be rooting you on and I will always be wishing you the best because I know that when you get to these places that you have always wanted to go, that it is going to be a good thing. It is going to be good for the production companies, it is going to be a good thing for the people you are working with. 

Rebecca Vanguard: Well, also with you saying that I have to say that I am really happy and grateful to be working with Nexxxt Level. Also, when I signed with Erika, The Rub PR, that was about a year before I signed with Nexxxt Level and I think those were two very important decisions that I made for my career. Both made such a difference in my life and my career. I would not be in the good places that I am without them. It has been a long time coming, that is for sure.

I do not know if I can close out the coolest interview I may have ever been part of better than Rebecca did but what I will do is say that what you read, what was heard, it is a way of life, speaking and acting that is not often seen.
