The XCritic Interview: Britney Amber Pt. 2

The path of a sex worker begins far before they have become a sex worker. In our last sit down with adult film legend Britney Amber we spoke about her beginnings, her path to success. Now, we find out about the performer, the actress, and the thinker. Few women can say that from the beginning of their work career the one constant that has always remained is adventure. Since the days of an ambitious young woman making a living at the Moonlite Bunch Ranch, to her recent role in the full length feature film Guns, Girls and Blood I do not think that there have been too many dull days in the woman’s career. Now, fans have the ability to talk to her all the time and be side by side with her throughout the day thanks to one of the most well produced YouTube Channels on the internet. It seems like the legendary starlet has done it all but I had to find out what it is that defines a woman who is also a great mother, a daughter who reached the top of the mountain despite not having the advantages that most of us take for granted in life. As we begin part two I implore any skeptic or critic of this industry to research all that you can about this little lady, as some things can sound too good to be true. What you will find is a new definition of the term woman as we see what is truly at the heart and soul of an adult entertainer. 

(We left off talking about acting and Britney was giving us the skinny about her latest film on Amazon, Guns, Girls and Blood. We spoke about unity. We spoke about the people by our sides and how much it means to have someone in the world who roots for you. I kid you not Britney is so excited to tell me about how funny Rebecca Love is in this film and how they were cracking up day in and day out on set. She is telling me about Cherie DeVille and how this wonderful story is giving all her girls this chance to be seen and how every performer in the adult world should know that the sky's the limit. Having seen this film myself, I can tell every performer out there, she is speaking the truth.) 

Don Juan: I think the most remarkable thing about all you ladies, has to be your pursuit to sharpen your acting. What you do just in this industry takes an actor of the most tempered mind set in front of the camera. I love films of all kinds, including adult films, and we are talking about the creation, the acting, the sculpting of a set, the editing. What I find you never get credit for, is that you ladies can perform with any type of skill set that is in front of you and that is so difficult in erotic performance art. Every performer you mentioned, no one talks about how you must carry a scene when the person you are cast alongside does not want to perform and you pick up that football and you run with it. That is the gift of acting and performance you all have. Now I want to see this film even more! 

Britney Amber: Yes it can be. and yes, this was such a fun movie to make. Even if I was not in this movie I would be preaching about it like I am. I am telling you, this movie is so good. It is so campy and I love campy movies. 

Don Juan: I am so watching it tonight and I will be posting pictures! 

Britney Amber: Yes! Please do, I think you are going to love it. I really hope that we get to do a part two to Girls Guns and Blood. That is how much fun on set we all had. The director was amazing and had all these wonderful ideas for part two. I do not know if financially that could happen. I hope so, but only time will tell. Keeping fingers crossed!

Don Juan: YEEEEEEESSSS! We are going to market the hell out of this thing. Oh my God, I am so excited. You ladies are a testament of where you can take your career. I see this with so many young performers that I talk to. They speak about mainstream, they talk about acting and I tell them, “This is a world where you can do anything. This is a life where it is all up to you. YOU, can do anything you want. 

Britney Amber: Oh, for sure. I know that when I first started, I don’t think I understood the value of taking your acting serious like I do now. When I first got into the industry, one of the first companies that I shot for was Girlfriends Films and I shot with Rayveness. She had been in the industry a very long time, and she is a very good actress. Regardless if you have ever had training or not in acting you are still going to pick things up along the way. If you keep going at it, you will eventually get it. Rayveness, she was a great, seasoned performer, and I was brand new and this was a really serious scene. Girlfriends Films, they are a company that has lots of dialogue and their scenarios can be very serious. That particular scene I was playing a nun, you know one of the women that work in a church. This story was serious. I was talking with her character about something that had happened to a friend of mine, and I was playing the teen, and she was the older MILF. That has been the common theme of a lot of productions I have done now with Girlfriends Films. So, the whole scene unfolds and things lead to us going into the bedroom, so that I could “show” her what happened and that was the first time that I ever had any real acting that I had to do on camera. 

Before that, I had done a few scenes here and there but nothing that had a lot of acting attached to it but nothing with what I was being asked to do here with Girlfriends Films and Rayveness. So as we are getting into the scene, I just froze up and I did not know what to do. The director saw this and took me aside and said, “just read this, like this.” He was trying to show me what to do and all I was trying to do was picture things in my head and that led me to get more and more anxious. Then, on top of everything else, nothing was seeping in due to that anxiety. I was in a panic because things were so much harder than I thought they would be. That was my first taste of what that feeling is like to hesitate and be unsure. Later down the road, once I went back to college, I did take some acting classes while I was attending. From then on I started taking one on one acting classes and we are talking some difficult classes in an actors studio. I am proud of that. I really came a long way from there. Now, I feel that I am a really great actress but I can remember when I started to become that actress and those days still bring back memories like they were yesterday

Don Juan: So, you just said that it was a nun you were playing? iI had to be Dan that was directing that scene, am I right? 

Britney Amber: Yes, yes it was. 

Don Juan: Now do not get me wrong, I think the world of Dan, and he has been that cornerstone that has taken the industry where it is today and my goodness, that man comes up with some of the darkest and erotic scenarios. It is the most lovely shade of dark that is for damn sure. I could not imagine what that had to be like, especially being that you were working alongside that “Southern Belle” Rayveness. My goodness, that woman is such a powerhouse. One of the greats of the industry in my opinion. A legend and beyond!

Britney Amber: Oh, yes. That is just the thing right there. She is such a seasoned performer. At that time, I think that she had been in the industry for about twenty years. She was very, very seasoned, and I was very, very new. She was a very good actress, and I was the one who kept trying to match everything she was doing but ended up frustrated saying, “I do not know what to do!”

(We share a great laugh as we have throughout this tale. Britney Amber is a woman known round the globe for her ability to make a Girl/Girl scene sizzle. I think on more than a few occasions, she has been the one to make the career of the new starlets that enter the industry the very same way. That is something I have only seen the true actors to be able to do and have the heart a patience to do so.)

For some people, things just come easier to them than others, but oh my gosh, It was a very hard climb to become better at that and it was a very, very hard climb but I stuck with it and I put myself through a lot of training. I am at that point where I am proud of where I am at and I do enjoy it when I get compliments about my acting. I really feel so good that I came so far but the other advice I would love to give people, especially those people who are starting to act and take that part of their career seriously, is that you have to stick with things. You have to look at this like you would any other training. It pays off. If I had known then what I know now, …

Britney Amber: Yes, yes it does. Oh my gosh, I am telling you……

Don Juan: I have to tell you this. I was sitting down with another seasoned actor like yourself, and we were doing these exact same things, and she told me, “You know, when I got into adult, you have no idea how much this industry sharpened my acting skills.” We spoke about turning sex into a performance and what people fail to realize is that ninety percent of sex is clunky, done in the dark, so when someone is looking to create a film, a scene for their fans that they will buy, that they will download, they have no idea how much goes into turning that thought in one head into entertainment. It is so damn difficult. You are a person who has always shown how beautiful performance can be in this industry. Your career has consisted of telling tales few can and I mean that. You are one of the people who shaped the morden industry.

Britney Amber: Why thank you. I will be honest with all my fans, it is not something that came overnight even when I began to take classes. It took years of practice. You know, I think something else that many people do not know, is that no one trains you on how to be a porn star. You are just thrown in there. Then, while you are being thrown in the mix, you have to pick things up quickly with some companies and directors or you will be left behind. No one tells you to be observant. No one tells you to look around and soak up everything that you can each time that you are working. You have to understand each moment, especially when it is the acting and performance part of everything. You have to be there, you can not be somewhere else in your mind or sometimes even thinking what comes next and for obvious reasons, but also so that you know that the acting part is so important. I have seen some people say that they can do without the acting part of their work and wish everything was just about the sex, but the sex is nothing without what you learn from acting. The sex scene requires a character to set everything and for you to always be staying in that mode, that is what matters. 

Don Juan: Oh my goodness darlin’ you and Cherie I hold in very high regard because one thing that you have always had, and I say that being a film guy, you are a woman who is always aware of the camera and where it is. You have always had that as long as I can remember. It is almost like you and Cherie have that built into your DNA. You both instinctually move and without breaking the fourth wall, you take the viewers to a place that few can in cinema. A lot of people give male talent a lot of credit for being able to be on set for six hours and do what they do. Hey, that is great and all, but no one gives a performer credit who is in this acrobatic position and performers without looking around and wondering, “where the fuck is the camera.” People do not give you ladies enough credit for that, I wish that they would. 

Britney Amber: Yes, I think that is another big thing that a performer has to learn to do. I think that if you are lucky and you have years and years and years of doing it, things just come eventually but it is something that is built in with me.

It is a very visceral thing. I do not even have to think about it anymore, it is something that I just feel, I just know. Learning where to position yourself for the camera.

These days, it has become a very valuable thing to me now that I have been doing a lot of my own content. I have been doing my own lighting, I have been doing my own camera work. It has begun a whole new way of seeing things and the thought processes has become that much more apart of what I do.

Just the other day I spent so much time just adjusting how the light was hitting me until I had that position where I could just feel it. It is instinctual. Going over that mental checklist, that I need to do this, or I need to do that. It is something that is so much about feeling things out. So again, my advice to new performers; it is hard in the beginning but stick with it.

Don Juan: Woman, you are gangsta and I will tell you why….

Britney Amber: Oh no, sorry to interrupt.

(I fucking loved this and here is why. Most performers I interview, where the both of us are on the same page, I will interrupt about twenty times. I am a pretty casual guy when speaking and in most instances the amazing ladies of this industry are just too humble and wonderful to tell me to shut the fuck up. It was cool to have a performer interrupt because I do it to so many times with them when we really get a conversation going. The professionalism of Miss Britney Amber is something so rare in this world period!)

I really wanted to say this final comment on your question. There are times that every performer must face and accept or adapt to, like your boobs sagging more and you get in this habit of trying to hide more on camera. So many times we take those measures to try and make ourselves look good in the public. It can be something as simple as posing in ways that are super uncomfortable. All in the name of hiding flaws and that has become a massive challenge over the years. I guess that is just what happens when you get older. 

Don Juan: My goodness, all you beautiful models. You ladies always forget, women are the greatest treasure on earth, nothing is as beautiful as the many shades and sizes of beauty you all come in. You know, I hate the title, but the “MILF” genre is as beloved as it is due to the fact that we all get to see women who have that refined beauty that only comes with age and all of those imperfections, like saggy boobs, wrinkles or stretch marks. Now, don’t get me wrong, I know that is not easy for a model who makes money off of her looks. It is so hard beyond anything I can imagine but I still must say, it is a beauty we love because of those imperfections.

Britney Amber: Our thoughts can be what play tricks on us many times. I see a critic like you and I that many of you guys do see what it is that we are and I think that is why we put so much emphasis on those poses because it is our job, just like it is yours to critique the work what we do. The biggest part of modeling for a performer, is that you know that you are creating an illusion. I think that every woman, but I am just talking about my flaws here, there are certain things that I just accept, you know what I am saying? You have to. If you want to talk about specifics, then I can give you an example of what I mean is my tattoo. I have not liked my tattoo for a long time. I always go out of my way during a shoot to hide it, or cover it up. I have for a very long time moved my body while posing, like moving my arm a lot further down in order to hide the view from the camera. Those are the little things that every model does to make the illusion that much more real to the fans that are watching.

(My God, I kid you not, that very instant I thought of how many times, for many decades I have seen a model in a magazine doing a million different poses and my thoughts became stuck on what that model may have done to hide a flaw, to create an illusion. The wonders of modeling you can only learn from the mind of a brilliant model. It explains why most days on set of an adult film, even a gonzo film take up about six to eight hours minimum.) 

I have done a lot of things over the years to cover it up besides just posing too. Sometimes I wear a garter belt, ....

Don Juan: Oh my God, I kid you not, sorry to interrupt again, but if you could read my notes, they would show the bullet point to this conversation and questioning, is that your modeling skills are so massive, you hide your tattoo well. It is something that spaces my mind at times that you even have one because you cover it up so well.

Britney Amber: Oh you're fine, you're fine and thank you, but here is the weird thing about it, now that I am doing my own content, and I am in control of everything, what I wear, what positions that I am in, what I am doing and not doing, all of those things, I find that I think about more what is out there. I think about what I am up against, I think every model does. Now that I control it and when you work for big companies they all have this very broad outlines of what they want, and they do not care about some of the imperfections we see in ourselves or what we could be self-conscious of that week or that month. The life of a model, it is a life that you are going to fit into this, you're going to fit into that, and that is the outline you are going to follow. That is the job when you are a model. Most times the production companies have that clear idea of what everything is going to be and due to those imperfections, it can be very tough at times. You work with a great director and that person knows what they want. They know how they are going to pose you, what position they want you in. They are not thinking of what you think your what your best position is in your eyes. They do not give a shit about any of that. A lot of what a model's work day consists of, are moments where you fit yourself into something that is not you. You then say to yourself, “eww, this does not look sexy.” Every woman who has worked for a big company faces that and to get to the point of my story. and answering your question further, that is the illusion we create. We must accept what they want, create that illusion, that is what we do best and that is why I am so loving getting to create my own content. 

Don Juan: My goodness, this is one of the greatest damn pieces of information that I have ever gotten from a model madam. This is pure knowledge for the masses right here. 

Britney Amber: Oh, this is what is so freeing when you are able to make your own content. I am free to do what I want with my own body. I can pose the way I want, I can make things the way I want them to be created. I can wear what I want. It is a very wonderful feeling to have this now being that I have been in the industry for as long as I have. Now, I get to work on new challenges. Getting to come up with story ideas. Getting to direct my own work and pick out something that my fans are going to like. When I began going this route, I looked at my career and what I had done and I said, “you know what? I have been doing this a lot longer than a lot of other people in this industry.” That is what led me to where I am today. I honestly can tell you that I am putting out the best content that I ever have by myself. 

Don Juan: I love it! Madam, you're basically reading my notes here. I wish that you could see what I have written here. During my research I once again headed to a lot of adult message boards on the big sites and what fans are talking about is, “I didn't even know she had a tattoo.” Now, I find those posts funny for a few reasons. Well, you have opened my eyes to so much I did not know about modeling but also, it is funny, just as you stated how people notice the smallest things. I simply can not put myself in their shoes but you are right. That is how people just are. It is human nature I suppose. 

Britney Amber: Well, I think even still, a lot of people probably do not care about it as much as I do. It is just something that is inside me and I think always will be. Chalk it up to someone doing something when they are young and making those mistakes that we all do when we are young. I just do not want to spend the time or effort over many years just to get it removed. It takes so much to get a tattoo removed. I don’t think that things look normal either once you get a tattoo removed. It almost looks like you got burned or branded, and that has always played a heavy factor on how I feel about getting it removed. There are so many ways to cover it and I found that just thinking about things more detailed about the situation I am in, has solved every question that arises about it. Maybe it is also that I never fully went all in. 

Don Juan: I love getting to speak with you about these fascinating looks into the mind of a model. People never get to know what you all go through. I can not thank you enough for sharing these stories and thoughts madam. OK, time for some more philosophical stuff. Being that you are a veteran of this industry. One of the most professional people I have had the pleasure of having in my hot seat. I would love to know, what does the word sexuality mean to a woman like you? 

Britney Amber: Sexuality…. Hmmmmmm, I don’t know if I am the best person to ask this question because up until about the end of last year, I was thinking that I am still finding my own sexual identity. No, I guess I can say that I have it figured out now but my whole life, I honestly did not know if I was gay, straight or bisexual. I am in a relationship now but up until I had met him, I had not been with anyone. I honestly thought that I was asexual. I had gone through a very, very long period where I did not find anyone, or anything attractive when it comes to a relationship and my sexuality within everything like that. Well, also being in the sex industry it honestly does warp your sexuality in certain ways. 

Don Juan: Sure it does, sure it does.

Britney Amber: It is something that puts you in a very, very confusing space. 

(I find this one of the most fascinating answers that I have ever received. Britney is a legendary performer. A woman who is basically as A-List in this industry as it gets. To learn that this college educated, passionate, intelligent, hard-working independent woman has felt that she was asexual her whole life, it shows that what we know about society, about people is all wrong. Here is a woman educating me on something that is confusing to so many people in this world. People who have little of no sexual experince at all. Fans and critics will rant and rave I am sure, thinking that a porn star could not ever be a person who is asexual. That is the wonder of this industry. The wonderful people from every single character type. I have NEVER seen it anywhere else, that kind of honesty. The fact that this warm, kind person is telling me thoughts that some people can never come to terms with, it is something that shows the strength of the performers in this business both mentally and physically.) 

I have seen so much and been a part of so many different types of things. I think that when you feel such things that people out there treat you differently. That makes it very difficult for a person to find their sexuality, at least for me anyway. That is just my personal story, maybe some other people could tell you that they had things go a little differently. Perhaps being in the business has helped catapult them into their own sexuality, who knows. At the same time, I feel that so much did blossom within me. I really do. The industry did propel me into womanhood and it showed me paths within my sexuality to discover and help me grow in many ways. There were also some things that were restricted. There are things that restrict you. I think that is what makes that question one of the hardest ones that I have ever had to answer.

Don Juan: Oh my goodness, you are simply touching my heart and being madam. Wow, that is one of the greatest answers that I have ever received. I think people do put too much emphasis on many things within a relationship. I am a person who has always looked at sex as the least important part of the relationship. The parts that are the most difficult are the soft, emotional and deep connections and truths. I have always wanted to ask you, being a woman who is educated, who is intelligent, who has seen the business side of everything like I have. It takes a lot to have your eyes opened to the world. To tell and discover the truth of sexuality within yourself. That is why I love asking performers this question. It is something that all people can relate to and when they see “sex workers,” performers, porn stars think in ways that are human beyond belief, I think that brings a connection and comfort to so many people. Even the people who judge us and say we are all devils. The human spirit, sexuality, it is something always evolving and growing and you just proved that. 

Britney Amber: It is evolution, it really is. I honestly do not think if I have ever been sure one minute in my life about it. I guess what I can also say about it, is that there are so many different experiences, so many different ways that people discover it. For me, it is something that became known and then it contorted into something different, and then contorted again. Now that I am going to be thirty-four this year, I am starting to take the next step and start a serious relationship, it is growing up to say it straight. I really feel that I am finding myself more now. If something happens in a few years now I have that thought and feeling within my mind that things will get all jumbled up again and who knows where that will take me. With everything that I have seen and done that is probably how things will probably happen. You know? Just like you said, it is because we are always changing and evolving. 

Don Juan: Madam, that was one of the greatest answers that I have ever been told once again. I think we could talk stories all day long. You know, a person’s sexuality and mine too has been constantly going everywhere since college. When a person gets involved in sex work, your mind becomes this sponge. I think because of all that I have seen and done, it has blossomed my sexuality to be able to handle a few more things and I think that is why I have always been able to relate to the girls. Long story short of how I can relate, I began dating a woman who loved BDSM and I said being a hopeless romantic, “I am going to be the one who teaches her a few things about romance” and it ended up being vice versa. When I started to enjoy the BDSM play, my mind was going bonkers. I did not know if I should feel weird, strange or happy that I now enjoyed this. It is a fucking trip. Just like you said. Your mind evolves. 

Britney Amber: Yes, I can totally see what you're saying. There are just a lot of times that you really do not know how to feel about anything. Even when you try to apply your knowledge to the things that you are facing and thinking. Sometimes you just have to stop and say, ahhhh! A lot of the scenarios that I have confronted over the years they make me think about sex and how you feel. It makes you think about yourself, your gender and all the genders that are out there. It is something so unique that you can have points, just like I did after years of being in the sex industry, that I did not know what I liked and what I did not like and it is something that just hit me one day in so many scenarios. It is why you must take your time with everything that you are and that you do because it is easy for things to go quickly into this state of overload. 

Don Juan: Darlin’ the truth of it all and this is what I think makes sexuality so special. It is the sign of the true evolution of the mind, and my goodness, how you are just the shining example of it’s beauty and wonder. This truly means that you have one of the rarest of brains Britney Amber and that is something that has always made me love this business. The one in a billion minds like yours. I wish that more people had that. The mind should always be growing. 

Britney Amber: Why thank you. You know, there is a truth to that saying that you reach a point when things start slowing down and it is right around that time in your early thirties. It is not just the mind either, it is the body. I have these moments where my body just aches and that just snuck up on me so quickly. I am saying to myself, “oh no, everything they said is coming true! Oh no!"

(We share a massive laugh. The only way I can describe these last moments, it is like sitting down and getting to hear a professor tell you about the history of the world in great detail, with perfect poise. Britney manages to show me yet another beautiful side of the human spirit and the wonder of the mind and heart of a porn star, an actress, a model.) 

Don Juan: Oh my God, I am at that point where working out does not pay off as much as it used to, and that so fucking sucks. Like you said, this shit creeps up on you. 

Britney Amber: No, I feel you. That is exactly what I am talking about. Things feel even more strange and confined with the quarantine. Not being able to just go out and about, running around, doing those day to day things we took for granted. Those things burned so many calories, so it is even worse now. I feel like I have been working at home forever. I think the more that you stay home, the more that you are putting on more and more weight no matter what it is that you do. I do not feel that I have put on a ton of weight but I do think that I have put on a few pounds. I am finding more time to work out now, but I am still adjusting to what we are limited to do. It has required some tremendous amount of thought and patience. 

Don Juan: Are you a big cook? Do you like to cook? I have found so much time to do so during these crazy days of being stick indoors.

Britney Amber: Yes but it has been so tempting with all this time to eat the wrong things. I have been obsessed with angel food cake. 

Don Juan: I have tried to be so constructive during the pandemic and I started cooking a lot. Fuck, I had forgotten how hard that this is, but it is a passion, so it is frustration with love. 

Britney Amber: It does take up a lot of time, especially when you are trying to cook all the healthy foods. They require a lot more care. Even now that I have been making my own content, working from home and this is the longest that I have ever worked from home. 

Don Juan: Oh my goodness, you are too much darlin’! Now, are you the person who is still getting up bright and early, or are you sleeping in till late and procrastinating. Me, I will not lie, I got lazier and lazier when I first started working from home. How about you? 

Britney Amber: I am a person that has always gotten up a little later. I find that I am doing a lot more than I ever have. Before this it was not like that. I think a new factor for me besides work is that I am in a relationship now. I am learning a lot about putting that into an important place with my time and presence on a daily basis. He is someone who loves to work all the time and I love that about him. He is always pushing me to higher levels within everything. He shares the views of what he has done and I think we both utilize that very thing in each other. I love that he pushes me because I would be a lot lazier if he was not here. To link in what you were talking about cooking. We recently bought a new BBQ cooker about a week ago, and it is so awesome. Throughout my life I have been the cook. I say I would average about three to four times a week and on those days, we are talking about everything from breakfast to dinner. So now, that is what we are going to be trying out and making as many different things as we can. Those little things are just so enjoyable in life and I learned that is what matters most.

Thus concludes one of the most marvelous articles and moments I have been a part of. Here is a woman who has been a sex worker since she became an adult. A mother, an actor and a damn fine one at that. A courtesan who did the impossible and became an adult film legend. A legend who studied acting and became a mainstream actor. I spoke with producer Robert Roland, whose film, Girls Guns and Blood is one of many that has showed this woman’s growth, could only speak of her enthusiasm. His love for who and what she is in his film. A writer always looks to be that person who reflects a side of the subjects that he works with, so that their fans, their critics can see what it is that they see. Britney Amber was able in this two part interview,to showcase what it is that made me make the adult world my home of homes. What that is, it is personified in what has to be what that woman, who even during a pandemic, tries as hard as she can to shed a good light on things. Britney speaks about things to look forward to and gives advice to people inside and outside this business. The most powerful example being when a woman who believes shows that her confusion is our confusion and that simply saying what something is to her, that is the true strength of humanity and people. Yes, I will be the first to say that porn stars may be the best people on earth and it has nothing to do with what is on the outside and more so what is on the inside. Britney proved that today.
