Porn Stars Taking Responsibility Regarding Health

In the four or five years since I have been writing in the adult industry I have seen a lot and learned a lot. Some of it good, some of it mind blowing and some of it simply sad. I am sure all of you reading this can relate in some way or another.

Recently I was reading about porn legend Houston battling lymphatic cancer, which is one of the true sad moments since I was/am a fan of her impressive work in the 1990s. What's even more compelling to me is how the majority of the new girls in the industry don't even know who she is.

Houston started in porn at 26 years old in 1995 and left the business in 2005. That strikes me kind of funny because porn girls at 26 nowadays are considered washed up almost, let alone starting the business at that age.

Houston is an AVN Hall of Famer who starred in one of the most controversial and popular adult movies of all-time, 1999 are The World's Biggest Gangbang 3 where she set a record for fucking the most men. I also remember, if memory serves me correctly, she went to Prom with a high school kid who wrote her a letter, which was a totally cool thing for her to do.

Now she is sick, really sick and I hope she will be ok. All my thoughts and prayers are with Houston.

This takes me back to the things I have learned in my years of the adult industry. Porn girls get sick and it seems porn girls never ever have health insurance so they reach out to the fans, even long after they have left the business, looking for help aka money.

Now, I know times are hard thanks to the idiot in the White House, but porn stars should know, especially in this industry, that they will need medical care at one time or another. They can't rely on AIM or fan handouts. I mean these girls make really good money and a standard health insurance plan isn't that expensive on  a monthly basis. I have been in and out of the hospital since I was six-years-old and I know how hard it can be, but I am not pulling down the money these girls are.

Couldn't they bypass the $300 jeans, $200 purse and $100 shoes for one month to get a good health insurance plan or is that being to responsible?

I just don't understand how these girls can say they are making $100 grand or more a year and NOT have health insurance. Then when they get sick they need to take donations from their fans. I just don't get it, something doesn't add up.

It's time for these girls to grow up and realize not everything in life is free. They can't put on their "wish list" for fan gifts, diamonds, shoes, health care. Life just doesn't work that way.

I am not ranting at Houston or because of Houston. As a person who has battled health issues all my life, I certainly feel bad for her and hope it will all turn out for the best. I am just saying the porn girls of today need to learn from other's who paved the way before them and be responsible before it is too late.
