Playboy to Launch New Platform Centerfold.com

PORNSTARS

In December of 1953, the world was forever changed with the release of the first-ever issue of Playboy magazine -- The cover featured Marilyn Monroe, and inside was the now-infamous set of nude photos.

The success of Playboy magazine changed how society as a whole looked at sex.

Since then, the magazine has featured a plethora of celebrities, including Jayne Mansfield, Madonna, Farrah Fawcett, Joan Collins, Goldie Hawn, Cindy Crawford, Drew Barrymore, and Kim Kardashian, just to name a few.

The company has always been at the forefront of change. In 1994 the company launched its official website, Playboy.com, and the Internet was never the same. While not officially the first adult-themed website, it was without a doubt one of the most popular in its early days. This, of course, was because the Playboy brand was so widely known.

A year later, Playboy launched the Playboy Cyber Club, which would later become Playboy Plus, a website that features content a little more risqué than what was seen in the printed version of the magazine.

Recently Playboy featured former adult film star turned social media icon, Lana Rhoades, in two exclusive shoots. This was out of the ordinary for the Playboy brand, which in the past had tended to shy away from working directly with the adult film industry.

Although Lana Rhoades hasn't shot an adult movie in three years, she's still one of the most popular porn stars in the world. Today she has over 16.5 million followers on Instagram and over 1.5 million followers on Twitter. This has made her a bonafide social media influencer and a multi-millionaire.

A few months ago, Playboy shot another former adult film star, Mia Malkova. Mia Malkova left her traditional adult film career behind and now focuses solely on producing her own content for OnlyFans.

Mia Malkova boasts more than 9.5 million Instagramfollowers, as well as 2 million on Twitter. She also has a massive following on the gaming platform Twitch, which is sort of like YouTube, but for gamers. Mia made news in January of this year when she bought a stunning Oregon castle for $4 million.

Both Lana Rhoades and Mia Malkova will join Playboy on their latest endeavor, an OnlyFans like platform called Centerfold.

"I worked with Playboy for the first time in 2016 at the beginning of my digital career," explains Lana Rhoades to Fleshbot. "Playboy has always been a brand that embodies female beauty and sexual empowerment, but in 2021 they are so much more. Last year I collaborated on a lingerie line with their sister company Yandy & shot my first non-nude digital cover for the magazine! Playboy has supported me through all eras of my career, and I am excited that I will be part of the launch for their new era."

Since officially ending print publication two years ago, Playboy has looked for new ways to bring its provocative brand to the world. Centerfold.com will serve as a home for the world's top creators to interact directly with their fans and followers and allow them the freedom to express themselves openly and uncensored.

Although not officially launched, the platform will roll out in the coming months. In addition to Lana Rhoades and Mia Malkova, Centerfold is also expected to have several Playboy Playmates and even a few celebrities on board.

The pandemic changed the way fans interact with their favorite content creators.  Instead of just looking at photos in magazines or watching films featuring their favorite porn stars, fans were able to utilize platforms like OnlyFans to interact with the performers one on one.

Suddenly overnight, the phrase "content creator" became commonplace, and women all over the world started raking in big bucks. It wasn't just adult film stars who were taking advantage of platforms like OnlyFans to connect with their fans. Former NFL star Terrell Owens is on OnlyFans, as well as celebrity fitness trainer Jono Catano.

Celebs like Cardi B, Chris Brown, and DJ Khaled are also taking advantage of the platform, giving them a unique way to connect with their fans. Hip hop sensation Rubi Rose reportedly earned $100,000 within the first few days of making her account. Now with more than 8,000 subscribers, she often goes live and just talks about her life and her music.

Playboy's Centerfold.com wants to be clear though, it's not just another OnlyFans clone. There are more than enough of those out there already.

"Playboy is a brand that people know and trust," says Holly Ruprecht, Senior Manager of Affiliate Marketing for Playboy. "We work with models, celebrities, musicians, and adult film stars alike. Centerfold.com will bring them all together on a single platform. To allow them to express themselves creatively without fear of censorship."
