Porn omnimedia company Adam & Eve announced yesterday that it will phase out the use of phthalates in their sex toys which, in addition to having a note of dismissal built right into the word (even if that initial 'ph' is silent), have been linked in studies to making the balls of mice smaller.
"Used since the 1920s, phthalates are most commonly found in 'jelly' type sex toys," a spokesperson for Adam & Eve says, adding that because long-term effects aren't yet known, the company and its signature toymaker, Topco, are discontinuing products that use phthalates.
Also used in vinyl flooring and beauty products, phthalates are thought to have caused liver, kidney, and lung damage in the same unfortunate rodents. Thanks to Adam & Eve's statement released this week, however, the orifices of America can rest a little bit easier ... for now.- GP
