Over the past decade, several filmmakers have taken on the challenge of shooting a mainstream movie with actual hardcore sex in it. Some have created fantastic projects (we loved John Cameron Mitchell's "Shortbus"), others have been less successful (Michael Winterbottom's "9 Songs" bored us to tears)—but now someone wants to make a sexually explicit mainstream movie...in German.
Okay, to be fair, the German part isn't what's really fascinating (if we looked hard enough, we could probably find previous German movies that had actual, factual sex in them). What is interesting, however, is how the filmmakers are trying to fund this project: specifically, through donations from you, the people. It's sort of like Kickstarter, if Kickstarter welcomed sexually explicit projects into its fold: over the next month and a half, the project is soliciting donations; give money, and you'll unlock more pages of the script for public consumption (and maybe even get a film credit)...and if the goal of 170,000 euros is reached, and the project is fully funded, well, we'll all get the chance to enjoy the film in all its glory (which, if the sample footage currently online is any indication, will be really frickin' awesome).
