Nowadays, anyone who wants to feel a little bit naughty can whip out a camera and snap a dirty photo of themselves—but in olden times, it wasn't quite so easy. No, if you wanted to show the world your naughty side, you had to engage the talents of a painter and have them use their craft to depict you in the buff.
Complicated? Most definitely. But since it was the only option out there, it was, in fact, employed by a few dedicated young exhibitionists, including Nell Gwyn, an actress who moonlighted as the mistress of King Charles II. Though her old timey exhibitionism was "lost" for awhile, it's finally been recovered, and will be on display at London's National Portrait Gallery, presumably as part of a thoughtful exhibit on the history of celebrity sex tapes and public exposure.
