Twenty Questions with April Flores

BBW superstar April Flores is the star of performer/director Aiden Starr's Evil Angel release"Marshmallow Girls" that will be available on DVD and VOD on July 16th.  Flores received the first ever BBW Performer of the Year AVN Award this year and she reaches out to her fans regularly through her website.  She had the first BBW sex toy molded from her vag by the fine people at Topco and she is the subject of FAT GIRL, a book of photographs taken over twelve years by her late husband photographer Carlos Batts.  Here are her answers to twenty questions.

1)  What kind of girl were you back in high school?  Who did you hang out with/date?

In high school I was pretty quiet and reserved. I wasn't necessarily shy, but I wasn't outgoing. I kind of just blended into the crowd. I didn't date much either. I only had one boyfriend in high school and he went to a school in the city. I think I was a late bloomer, but that's alright. I'd rather have my peak as an adult than in high school. 

2) Were you a porn fan before you got into the industry?  Who were your favorite porn stars/favorite porn movies?

Before getting into the porn industry, I rarely watched porn. I had one friend I would watch porn with though. We would watch her brother's movies on vhs and just laugh and laugh because we felt an exciting mix of being turned on and being uncomfortable.  Our favorite scene involved a woman fucking herself with a banana while moaning, "Banana, banana, bananaaaa!" We just tripped out on her. Unfortunately I don't remember the names of the cast or titles of those movies we watched. That was a long time ago.

3) What do you think shaped you into the performer that you are known for being?

I think the decisions I have made and who I have chosen to work with have shaped me into the performer I am today. I have stated the purpose of my work many times, and that is to use it as a tool to show other women and the world that plus sized women can feel confident and worthy of sexuality regardless of their weight. My work with my late husband Carlos Batts also gave me freedom and support to grow with someone I completely trusted. I appreciated his partnership while he was here, but now that he's gone I am starting to fully realize the value of what I learned by working with him so closely for 13 years.

4) What/who do you want to do on-camera that you haven’t done yet?  

I'd love to do an orgy scene. 

5) Who is your favorite male performer/female performer to work with and why?

I had a lot of fun working with Tommy Pistol. He was energetic and funny and we both like to use and play with spit. Our scene is probably the most spit-heavy scene I've ever done. 

6) You seem to really love your fans and you talk to them a lot.  Tell me how having this fan base has changed your life.

I really love and appreciate my fans. They have changed my life by enriching it and validating the goals I set out to accomplish with my work. Since I made the decision to perform in adult films, my goal was to show the world that fat women can be sexy and desirable. My fans have told me that they receive this message and it impacts them in a positive way. Hearing those words brings me so much satisfaction. 

7)  What’s your favorite position to get fucked in and why does it get you off?

I love doggy style because the angle allows me to be penetrated deeply and have amazing orgasms. That position also gives me leverage to move how I want, giving and receiving the most pleasure. 

8) How was working with Aiden Starr?  What is she like as a person?

Aiden Starr is a wonderful person! She is super smart, strong and funny. I have known her for many years now and I had always wanted to work with her. After having the opportunity to work on Marshmallow Girls, my respect for her has multiplied. On set, she is focused, level headed and clear on what she wants. She is a great director because she wants the performers to have a good time and I appreciated that she cast me with such hot partners. She does all the camera work and is very hands on in all areas of production. I have nothing but total respect for her.

9) What do you think your fans will be most surprised to see in "Marshmallow Girls"?

My fans might be most surprised to see the blow bang scene in Marshmallow Girls, because I haven't done that on camera before. I absolutely loved it!

10) What are the best things about being a porn star?

The best thing about being a porn star is getting to indulge my love of sex and exhibitionism while exploring my own sexuality. I also love that I am able to use each project to grow as a performer and use my body to make a statement.

11) What do you think is your hottest scene in "Marshmallow Girls"?

I honestly think they are all hot scenes so it would be hard to narrow it down to just one. Each scene generated its own unique chemistry and energy and I think that will be visible in the film. 

12) What do you think is your best scene from one of your other titles and what made it so exquisite for you?

My favorite scene from another movie I was in was the three way with Jiz Lee and Syd Blackovich in "Dangerous Curves". Carlos directed this film and the whole movie was a magical experience for me. I always loved working with him and this project was special to us both. This particular scene takes place at the base of a huge waterfall on a boulder. It was hard to shoot, but what resulted from it was a visually stunning scene that incorporated the nature surrounding us with the sex. It's beautiful.

13) Who are your role models in porn and how/why do they inspire you?

Nina Hartley, Courtney Trouble and Aiden Starr inspire me because they have great attitudes and passion for what they do. My husband Carlos also inspires me because he executed his art with confidence and momentum. I aspire to be as brave an artist as he was.

14) Congrats on being the very first AVN BBW Performer of the Year!  What was winning that award like?

Thank you! It is a huge deal to be the very first AVN BBW Performer of the Year! Not much beats having your work recognized by people you admire and respect. I am so happy that I have had the honor of achieving many firsts for BBWs in this industry. Winning the award was so amazing and also bitter sweet. When I was at the award show and saw that I had won, I immediately knew how proud Carlos would have been in that moment. He was so happy when we heard that I had been nominated, I just wish he was there to experience the win with me.

15) What is the best mainstream movie you have seen recently? 

I really enjoyed the movie HER. I identified with the main character because he was so lonely and that is an emotion I have been coping with and learning how to adjust to since losing my soul mate. I also liked how they portrayed the future with the clothing and scenery. The idea that a person could fall in love with an inanimate object that is projecting interest and love doesn't seem too far off from what could really happen sometime in the near future. 

16) How about the best porno movie?  Is there someone whose movies you like to watch who is working now?

Carlos' work will always be my favorite. He was a visionary and his artistic style was ahead of his time. I also love the work that Courtney Trouble is producing.

17) Are you into toys to get yourself off alone or are you a low-tech woman?

My favorite toys are the njoy Pure Wand and of course the Hitachi Magic Wand! I just realized both those toys have "wand" in their names. Maybe it's because they can bring forth so much pleasure!

18) If you could fuck any celebrity, who would it be?  Give us your male and female choices.

I'd love to fuck Joaquin Phoenix because he is beautiful and seems super intense. I've had a crush on him since he went by Leaf Phoenix in the 80's! My female choice would have to be Rihanna. 

19) What is coming up for you?  

I am super excited about "Marshmallow Girls"! I also have a scene with Scarlet LaVey that will be debuting on Burning Angel this week. It was such a pleasure to work with Joanna Angel! FAT GIRL, my 12 year collaboration with Carlos Batts is a photo book that is also available now.
