A Field Guide To Karolina Wydra

CELEBRITY

nullIf you tuned into "True Blood" on Sunday (and you did, right?), you saw a lovely little scene of the vampire Violet getting busy with Jason Stackhouse on the hood of a car (talk about a nice hood ornament, right guys?). This comes on the heels of Violet ordering Jason to eat her out  in last season's finale – and it's made us more than a little curious about the actress involved in these two very delightful scenes. Who is Karolina Wydra? Where did she come from? Is she actually immortal, or does she owe her unnatural beauty to something other than vampiric powers? (Okay, we're pretty sure we know the answer to the last one.)

Karolina Wydra was born September 9, 1981, in Opole, Opolskie, Poland; though she moved to the great state of California with her family as a child. Due to some good luck, her family was able to secure a green card (which – well, more on that later), meaning the pretty Polish girl was able to stay in the States to pursue a career as a model and actress. And pursue she did: Wydra got started modeling at the age of sixteen, flying out to Japan for a handful of shoots. But you'll be pleased to know she didn't let that early attention go to her head. After her initial brush with the glamorous live of a model, she buckled down and focused on her studies, putting modeling on hold until the more mature age of nineteen, moving across the country to New York City, where she threw herself wholeheartedly into modeling, hitting up the runways and appearing in quite a few photo shoots, including spreads for brands like Armani, Levi's Red, Hoss, and Calvin Klein. But despite her success as a model, Wydra couldn't shake her desire to explore the world of acting – so in 2008 she made her way back to California, where she landed the role of Gabrielle Bochenski in the Jack Black/Mos Def tribute to the last days of VHS, "Be Kind Rewind."

The role of Gabrielle may not have been the star of the show, but it was a bona fide movie role, and that was enough to help Wydra get her foot in the door in Hollywood. Over the next few years, she landed work in a couple different projects, from a one off on "Law and Order" to a role in "Crazy, Stupid, Love." to a starring roles in a handful of shorts. And then in 2011 she got a significant break: Wydra landed the role of Dominika Petrova, aka Dominika House, the green card wife of the show's title character. Is it just a coincidence that a green card wielding actress played a green card needing character? Probably (especially since the circumstances surrounding Wydra's green card were a might bit different than Dominika's), but we still appreciate the coincidence. (Since this is Fleshbot, we should also note that "House" was where Wydra first got the chance to flaunt her talent for onscreen sexiness – though since that show was on Fox, her scenes never progressed beyond appearing on camera in her underwear.)

After her year long role on "House," Wydra's  acting opportunities began to multiply. You may have seen her in sci-fi flick "Europa Report," where she played Katya Petrovna (we're sensing a theme here, guys), or on FX's "Justified," where she played widow Mara Paxton (a role that, among other things, allowed her to finally break away from playing characters with Eastern European last names – even if it didn't showcase Wydra's beautiful butt, which, let's be honest, is pretty standard for "Justified."). But it is, of course, "True Blood" that truly made us fall for Wydra. Hey, you think we're not going to fall for a girl playing a vampire who receives some pretty serious head from her human consort?

Of course, all good things must come to an end, and with "True Blood" in its final season, it's only natural to feel at least a little worried that this might mean the end of Karolina Wydra's sex scenes. But friends, we can offer a glimmer of hope! IMDB reports that Wydra will be appearing in the Dutch film "Incarnate" (to be released in 2015), which we can't help but notice also features fellow crush object Carice van Houten, aka the oft naked Melisandre from "Game of Thrones." Now we suppose you could make a movie featuring these stunning talents without, ahem, featuring their stunning talents, but we'd like to think that the film's directors are at least a little more prurient than that (they are Dutch, right?). But either way, we'll always have the delicious scenes that "True Blood" has given us – and, knowing "True Blood" as we do, several more it'll likely dish out during the remaining episodes of the final season. (Thank you, HBO!)
