Texas Has, Unsurprisingly, The Most Complicated Topless Laws Ever

Everything's bigger in Texas, including complicated laws. Unless the laws involve guns or religion, there seems to be so much grey area, it's not even worth doing something that might potentially be seen as committing a crime, which is the exact problem with Texas' topless laws. While there is technically no law against (specifically) female toplessness in Texas, there's also nothing to prevent cops from arresting a woman without a shirt on.

My San Antonio (link below) recently profiled the various policies regarding toplessness across the state.

"Even if a top free law is firmly in effect, the police can still arrest you under the pretense of 'disorderly conduct'," the website reads, urging peoples not to be intimidated because the city can be sued for wrongful arrest, "if your only crime was to go topless."

Austin is the only city in Texas to pass the "topless test," according to gotopless.com, where topless women can walk through the town without being arrested.

Probably shouldn't try that in the Alamo City, though.

In San Antonio women who go topless in public can be arrested under one of three penal codes, public lewdnessindecent exposure or disorderly conduct if it appears the public could be offended by the display, a representative from the San Antonio Police Department said.

Isn't it great when laws differ wildly from county to county and town to town? Makes navigating life so much easier. Thanks Texas, as always, for making me glad I don't live there.
