Commence to celebrating! After a long, arduous, and hard fought battle by porn industry professionals across California, Assembly Bill 1576 will not be moving forward. According to XBIZ (link below), the bill had been tabled last week, and discussion of it ground to a halt.
Today, the committee shelved the bill, which would have required the use of condoms in adult film productions, as well as STI and HIV testing for performers.
This afternoon, Diane Duke told XBIZ that the Free Speech Coalition was "grateful" to members of the Senate "who saw this bill for what it was — a bald-faced attempt to exploit performers for political gain."
Performers and producers such as Lorelei Lee and Peter Acworth have been vocal in their attempts to defeat the bill, and this is a huge step forward not just for the industry, but also for the state of California which would have lost millions of dollars had the industry relocated to Nevada.
To all those who successfully lobbied to defeat this ridiculous bill, we congratulate and celebrate with you today.
