Porn Sets Minus Porn Stars Are Still Kind of Cool

A Photographer Shows Us Where Fantasies Are Made

While I have a feeling the set is not something many of us notice when we are watching porn, we do know those people aren’t really having sex in a real classroom. And believe it or not, when some of the world’s most beautiful people are done making sweet, sweet lovin’ on a set, the set is still kind of beautiful. That’s why photographer Jo Broughton took out her camera and snapped some pictures when she was all alone on various porn sets.  

Like many of us, Jo Broughton had to work while in school and instead of waiting tables, bagging groceries, or selling movie tickets, she got a job cleaning studios where adult movies were filmed. Noticing the quiet beauty of a porn set, Broughton began to snap pictures of the empty sets. Now, Broughton is releasing a book entitled Empty Porn Sets.  

The variety of settings—a school, a hospital, a bed of balloons—don't immediately belie their pornographic characters, but little details, like left-behind stilettos and tubes of lube, do. These are striking images that remind us that porn is made in the real world.  

I don’t know if I would call it a behind-the-scenes look at our fantasies, but it is a small peek into how our desires are brought to life. From the normal settings to the outrageous, each picture has something pretty unique. And I don’t just mean the dildos. Personally, my favorite is the ice cave set.
