Julia Ann Is Just A Vivid Legend

Porn legend Julia Ann was a Vivid Girl from 1994 to 1999 and a lot of what a lot of us think that a porn star is, actually is based somewhat on what Ann and the top performers of this time established for us. The late 1990's Vivid Girls were phenomenal sexual deities that still shape our erotic worlds.

What do you remember most about being a Vivid Girl? What do you think was the most special thing about the experience?
"Being a contract performer in the 90's was certainly a more simple time, at least that's how it feels to me when I think back. Signing with Vivid was everything at that time and meant that you were at the top of the game. I was lucky enough to have been able to share that time in my life with Vivid contract actresses like Christy Canyon, Dyanna Lauren, Janine Lindemulder, and Raylene, all of whom I still speak to today. We were more than just contract girls. We shared a time in erotica history that likely might not ever be seen again. I can't say we all loved each other but I do think there was more of a kinship than there is today. If I were to run into Taylor Hayes, Kobe Tai or Nikki Tyler, I believe it would feel as if time had stood still and the conversation would pick up where it had left off all those years ago."

Your relationship with fellow Vivid Girl Janine Lindemulder is pretty legendary. What do you feel that the Vivid movies you two made together captured most about your relationship?
"Most people don't realize that Blondage was a feature dance act before Janine and I decided to be in movies. The Blondage series was a great way for us to showcase not just us having sex but our personalities, how much fun we had dancing on the road and who we were as people. The first Blondage movie was so much fun to make, although Janine and I had just returned from France and were so exhausted that it took everything we had to get through the hours of shooting. 'Blondage Extreme Close-Up' really showed who we were and our emotional connection to each other. When Janine and I were dancing around the pool, we played Three Dog Night's "Never Been To Spain". Of course, that song was switched out for something we could legally use."

Your star showcase "Julia Ann Superstar" is such an amazing show of your sexuality from back in 1996. What do you remember most about making it and how does it rank amongst the other star showcases that have starred you?
"I don't think I ever recognized it as a showcase, it was part of a two movie release, the other called part called 'Return Engagement'. I just remember being young and thinking that I was pretty cool to have my name and the word "Superstar" in the same title. Like I've said before, it was a more simple time. It took much less to make me all giddy. Dare I say, 'much less important things' to make me feel important in the world. Nevertheless, it was a fun time. The same director that shot the original Blondage movie - Toni English - shot 'Julia Ann Superstar' and 'Return Engagement'. On a personal and funny note, Steven St Croix played my boyfriend in both parts and when shooting one of the scenes the director kept making him run after a limo that I was supposed to be in. He was screaming for me not to go to Hollywood as the limo left him in the background. Me and my girlfriend just kept laughing at him have to run behind this car while yelling out for me. I'm not sure he found it as funny as we did."

Your scene in "Seven Deadly Sins" with Janine was such a hot one. (Forgive me for coming back to you and her!) What do you remember most about this movie where you played Janine's double?
"It was a scene like any other except I wasn't used to shooting in front of a green screen. It was very technical and obviously, my face wasn't shown but I was happy to do it. Every work experience I've had has been worth having. I found it funny when it was recognized as a girl/girl scene between me and Janine when really it was to be seen as a girl/girl scene with herself, i.e. one person."

You appeared in four entries of the legendary "Where The Boys Aren't" series. What do you remember most about making those wonderful movies?
"The 'Where The Boys Aren't' movies were so much fun and at times a bit dramatic. Nothing like getting a group of contract actresses together for a movie. 'Where The Boys Aren't 6' and '7' were nothing but good times with me, Janine, Dyanna Lauren, Christy Canyon, and Asia Carrera. 'Where The Boys Aren't 12' and '13' were a little drama made it that more interesting - girls not liking other girls and almost no one liking the director that was new to shooting adult movies. Nothing like an 'outsider' to bring all the contract girls together. There was a touch of mutiny but the silver lining was we were all getting along. Ha ha ha!"

Here are the girls you were contract sisters and were around while you were in your Vivid Girl days. Give an adjective or more if you feel like it on each of them, please.
Christy Canyon. "Great business mind and sexually deadly."
Janine. "Not as tough as she tries or would like to be. Loves love. Free spirited."
Leslie Glass. "Passed away from cancer. She was taken away from us all too soon."
Chasey Lain. "Smiled from ear to ear."
Kobe Tai. "Funny, beautiful and unreasonably tiny. You have to idea how tiny she was. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't too thin. She was perfectly tiny."
Taylor Hayes. "Loved her smile. I miss her to this day."
Raylene. "She hasn't escaped me yet. I'm still in contact with her and she's as ravishing today as she was then."

The huge, huge crowds waiting to get your autograph and/or photos at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo every year just was an insane thing. What do you remember most about being in the eye of that storm?
"It was something that I'll always remember. The lines are still long but it's true that the display booths and the glamour aren't as obvious anymore but that's OK. I was lucky enough to have lived it and now I'm lucky enough to still be here witnessing the industry of today. I only wish the new talent could experience a little of what I've seen."

So what is coming up for you?
"My new baby is www.WomenByJuliaAnn.com. I felt that a website that offered erotica and everyday life was needed. I see so many options that are male oriented, things like Playboy and Penthouse, where guys could see hot chicks, sex and read about the next cool thing for guys. What I didn't see out there that was a female-oriented option where there was sex, beauty, health and wellness and community so I'm trying to create that space now. Women By Julia Ann isn't about the people I shoot but about the people I shoot for. I've created the site so that the first time adult site user that has been turned off or away from the front of a website being too graphic. She can come to my site and not feel instantly shocked or embarrassed. My goal is to make it sexy and smart. So far, I've been one lucky gal with all the support I've been given by Vicky Vette, Mike Quasar and my Women By Julia Ann members. The women that have shot for it have all been my cheerleaders in this venture and the support of Girlfriends Films in helping me create DVD's and distributing them. I often think that my dream for the site and the brand might be bigger than my capabilities but all I can do is continue to try. That's all any of us can do."
