Maybe You Should Move the Boxes Farther Apart

In my column Only in Florida, I'll be taking you down to the Sunshine State for the latest and greatest sex stories that can only be found in the craziest state in the union. 

There is nothing fun about moving. Even when the move is something you want to do the actually moving part is nothing but stress. The packing, the finding a new place to live, and of course having to deal with the DMV are never, ever enjoyable. But once you get your new place, unpack, and have your new driver’s license things start getting back to normal . . . that is, unless you move to Florida.  

New Florida resident Tammy Lemasters is currently suing the state of Florida after she was accidentally label a sexual predator on your driver’s license. Apparently former Governor Charlie Crist created the "Scarlet Letter" law, which requires all sexual offenders to have that label on their identification. According to John Phillips, the lawyer representing Lemaster, the DMV clicked the wrong button. They meant to click “Organ Donor”, but instead hit the “Sexual Predator” button instead. You know, kind of like when you hit “Reply All” instead of “Reply.”  

Of course, this story gets even more Florida because Lemaster didn’t notice that her new ID said “Sexual Predator” until after she attempted to enter Disney World with her three kids, but ended up being detained.  

A spokesmen for the DMV said he the system is going to be updated, and by updated I assume he means moving the “Sexual Predator” and “Organ Donor” boxes away from each other. Also he added people need to double check their new ID - but who in the world would even think to look for the words “Sexual” and “Predator” on their ID? Most people look at the picture and look at the weight they lied about.  

Even thought Lemasters has gotten her ID fixed, she is continuing with the lawsuit. Her lawyer points out this isn’t the first time someone at the DMV clicked the wrong button, including the case of labeling a blind man. Then again, Florida has a history of clicking the wrong boxes.
