General Leia Organa Is Off To Rule Another Galaxy
The world's mainstream news media is reporting that actress/writer Carrie Fisher died this morning in Los Angeles after suffering a massive heart attack last week on a plane to Los Angeles from London. She was only sixty years old. She had been in London shooting episodes of the British Channel Four/Amazon series "Catastrophe". She had previously been nominated for an Emmy for her work on that show.
She was the daughter of divorced Hollywood stars Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher and will be remembered by most people for playing the role of Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars movie franchise. A young, CGI'ed version of Fisher in the role of Leia appears in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" which is out in theaters right now. Some of her other noteworthy non-space princess performances include her work in "When Harry Met Sally", "The 'Burbs" and "The Blues Brothers". She never did any nude scenes in her movies but her scenes in lingerie in "Under the Rainbow" were hilarious and way sexy. She was the voice of Peter Griffin's boss on "Family Guy" and she guest starred on a ton of television shows.
In addition to her acting, she was a prolific writer who was open about her battles with addiction, mental illness and what life was like being a celebrity and the daughter of famous parents. Her last book was "The Princess Diarist" where she was open for the first time about her affair with a married Harrison Ford during the making of the very first Star Wars film. She also wrote for the television shows "Roseanne" and "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" and an HBO special based on her book "Wishful Drinking" was nominated for an Emmy.
This is such a sad fucking loss in a year where so many famous and influential artists have left us. May The Force be with us all in 2017.
