Finding This One Hard to Believe
Every once in awhile, I hear something and it simply doesn't make sense to me. Recently it's been happening more often than I think, but that's just the way the world is right now. So, to hear that HBO has a line they won't cross in one of their shows really does leave me puzzled. After all, this is the network that had actors sign contracts saying they were comfortable with possible genital-to-genital contact to an extra on Westworld (2016), yet there was something they wouldn't let them do on an episode of Girls (2012-2016).
I know it's a little crazy to say that Girls wasn't allowed to do something, but according to Judd Apatow and Lena Dunham, HBO actually said no to something.
APATOW: From the beginning, we were aware that what we were doing was sexually provocative, and that’s what made it interesting and new and fun. Lena wanted to reveal something that is normally hidden — so often you’re not talking about a giant part of most people’s lives because people don’t want to portray it on film — and that opened up tons of stories that you’re usually not able to tell. But then we had a scene with a conclusion shot …
DUNHAM: It was actually cum arcing through a shot.
APATOW: And HBO said, “If this is in the show, we could lose our license.” We were like, “Oh my God, we’ve actually found the line at HBO.”
Yep, seeing cum arcing was just a no-go for the fuddy-duddies at HBO, or at least that is what Apatow and Dunham told The Hollywood Reporter. Honestly, I don't know how to take this one because it's porn, it's HBO. After all the crazy things we've all seen on that network, it is kind of hard to believe there is one thing they said no to. Then again, maybe they say no to a lot and we just don't hear about it.
Still, HBO has a line and they won't go over it. Crazy.
