Hot Victorians: Men In Suits

Yer boy Hank here doesn't do much on social media. OK, porn. I might look at a bit of porn. And of course, on Instagram, ya can't really do heavy porn. You can do pornish, and with that and a bit of imagination, you can have a pretty good evening on yer own. One page I love is Hot Victorians, wherein old archival photos of men from the late 19th through the early 20th centuries are posted for your enjoyment. They also try to find who the men are, giving a bit of biographical info when possible. And hoo-doggy are these some hotties to gaze at.

Looking at them is like that scene in the Robin Williams movie Dead Poets Society when he takes his class to look at old photos of students from decades past and has them imagine their lives, their hopes, their dreams. We've shown you some sailors and some shirtless men. On this round of Hot Victorians, let's concentrate on Men In Suits.

Meet Mr Charles Augustus Vickers (1872–1941), pictured here in his late 20's or early 30's. We don't know much about this devastatingly handsome gentleman, save that he was one of eight children and lived his whole life in Sabine County, TX. There is so much to fawn over here. His gently curling hair, that mustache you want to see dripping with...well...you figure it out, his on-point tie and collar skills. I wonder what he looked like after a few days of not shaving, and what that suit would look like thrown in the corner as he climbed into bed next to...whom? Ugh, the possibilities are endless.

This is Captain Josef Melander, taken in 1917 by Gustaf Wilhelm Reimers, a professional photographer from Sweden. This photo was found in the Maritime Museum of Stockholm, Sweden. Capt. Melander commanded the steamship S/S Helios. He may have sailed cold northern waters, but we don't doubt he left warm hearts and bodies in every port!

Is it just me, or does this young man give off some serious Timothée Chalamet vibes? That touselled hair, those full lips and gazing, eager eyes? And he's a theater person! Can't you just see him doing naughty things with a peach? This is Arthur Schnitzler (1862–1931): Austrian author and dramatist, a key proponent of Viennese Modernism and a member of the avant-garde group Jung-Wien (Young Vienna). His plays veered toward the more adult fare, with sex and bedroom farces figuring heavily in his repertoire. One play of his from 1922 was deemed pornographic as it focused on a sex worker and depicted characters before and after sex.

Absolutely stunning. This is how I describe Mr. Patrick Murray (1846-1930) of Kilcar, County Donegal, Ireland. He was a teacher, and a rather virile one, given that he and his wife had ten children. Here's what's so striking about this picture. He seems to have both brains and muscles. I imagine him as a well-spoken professorial type, and having a brutish, Bear Daddy side as well. That steely gaze pierces one's soul as he leads you through a forest of the Emerald Isle, and lays you down alongside a babbling brook, and you give yourself willingly. Because, well, look at him! 

Now here's a suit of a different color. Well, I imagine it is comprised of many colors! This opulent gent is H.H. Sadiq Muhammad Khan IV, Nawab of Bahawalpur (1861-1899). He became the nawab of his region (a Muslim provincial governor or noble ruler, who, by this time, often liaised with the colonizing English) at the death of his father in 1866. As he was only five, British leaders oversaw the area until he took over in 1872 and ruled until his death at 37.

Unfortunately, we don't have any information about who this incredibly hot Bear is, but we do know the photograph came from a studio in Camden, NJ, c. 1890's. What is interesting about this man is how bushy and glorious his beard is, given the professional demeanor and suit. Usually, the beard is presented as neatly coiffed as his hairstyle. Oh man, don't you just want to run your fingers through that full bush?!
