Femboys Are All The Rage

Move over, alpha muscle studs, femboys are taking over the world! Over the past few years, the gay tribe of femboys has gained popularity and a voice. Thanks to social media, femboys have slowly started to take over as a popular genre of the queer community. All dressed up in lace, furry animal accessories, sassy and sexy costumes, this genre of gay pushes the twink and twunk envelope to be playful, sexy, and unapologetic. The term femboy even joined the list of top-searched categories for Pornhub last year. Femboy power!

Femboy is a term that originated around the 1990s. It refers to a cis male youth who dresses and/or acts feminine. This is not be confused with a trans woman, who identifies wholly as a woman. This is a celebration and exaggeration of a male's feminine side. Over the past few years, the term has also been incorporated into trans and non-binary circles. It is about self-identity and more about an energy that manifests itself through the wardrobe and accessories. Beyond the sexual attraction and attention, being a femboy is also seen as a sign of rebellion, challenging the norms of masculine vs feminine roles.

Being a femboy can exist as both a sexual identity and a non-sexual identity. Sometimes, males will identify as a femboy just in the bedroom, keeping that energy behind closed doors. Other males will flaunt their femboydom online, at the clubs, at Prides, but be total alpha tops in the bedroom. You decide where you want your femboy identity to exist.

Femboys have become fetishized by the sex community. There is an allure to know that someone is male, has male parts, but acts or dresses effeminately. They also tend to be more submissive in the bedroom. It is not surprising that both "straight" and gay factions find femboys sexually attractive. The term and sexualization became so popular that Pornhub added the category in 2013. The rise of social media, especially TikTok in the younger generation, has made it easy for femboys to socialize, be seen, and be popularized. In the 2000's, costume pieces started to be more of an indicator of a femboy. Cat ears and maid costumes, especially. It adds to the fantasy and non-conforming energy.

This last summer, femboys were responsible for some tech mischief. Many systems around the globe were hacked by malware that was titled "gayfemboy." Don't underestimate the femboys, don't judge a book by its cover!
