Well, it's Oscar time, and the surprising announcements have been uttered forth, down the mountain from on high. Proclamations have been made, gowns and suits are being designed, and garments are being rent in twain by those not nominated. Like, everyone involved in Wicked: For Good, which received only a grand total of (checks list) ZERO NOMINATIONS! And yer boy Hank here couldn't be happier about that. But moving past that giant chunk of schadenfreude, let's take a look at the Best Actors in a Leading Role nominees who have shown some skin in either their nominated or previous roles.
Thanks to Mr. Man for the clips and pics!
Ugh, her again? I jest. Sort of. Chalamet likes to show a bit of skin in many of his projects, but even when the subject matter is as racy as his relationship with a much older man, and he jacks it with a peach, then it's consumed, he still only goes so far as to show some, well, tasty peach! He's nominated for the biopic Marty Supreme, where he plays ping-pong really, really well. And in the hands of the director of Uncut Gems, you know it's a frenetic visual stunner.
DiCaprio has grown into quite the scruffy, handsome dad with the dad bod to complete the picture. At least that's how he looks in One Battle After Another. If you haven't seen it, you must! But try to catch it on a big screen, as there is a car chase in the last third of the film that benefits from a wide screen and serious sound system. But we go back to any number of his previous films, like The Wolf of Wall Street, where he's banging the holy hell (so he thinks) out of Barbie. I mean, Margot Robie. But if you wanna see all the goods, you need to look up the 1994 flick Total Eclipse.
Hawke is nominated for his tour de force performance in Blue Moon, where he plays the tortured songwriter Lorenz Hart, he of Rogers and Hart Broadway songwriter fame. The whole movie is one night, one location, at a celebration of the opening of the musical Oklahoma, which was the first big show by Richard Rodgers after he and Hart went their separate ways and he teamed up with Oscar Hammerstein II. Hawke plays a troubled, closeted gay artist, as he does in the sweet and weird western Strange Way of Life alongside the always dreamy Pedro Pascal.
My personal pick for who should win the Oscar is Jordan for his stunning and nuanced double role playing twins in one of the most mind-blowing, genre-bending horror musical commentaries on race you'll ever see. Are there any others? When the film ended at the viewing I saw of Sinners, people actually applauded. That's how moved and compelled we all were! Oh, and here's his fine AF ass in some other flick.
This hottie from Brazil goes full frontal playing a gay lifeguard. But Moura has elevated his game for his nominated role in The Secret Agent, a role that is sure to (it better!) put him in front of more American audience members. And if not, then we have him all to ourselves!
